Every once in a while, Steam does a survey of its gamers where it gathers information on the type of hardware and software their gamers use. I found it interesting. You can read through everything here: Steam Hardware & Software Survey (http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/)

But I thought I'd post some directly that specifically interests me because of my love of computers! So I'll list the product followed by the percentage of the Steam users that use it:

Windows 7 64 bit - 33.37% - took the lead
Windows XP 32 bit - 26.55%

4GB RAM - 26%
3GB RAM - 27%
2GB RAM - 24%

2 CPUs - 55.46%
4 CPUs - 31.99%
1 CPUs - 10.69%
8 CPUs - 0.16% - I wanna be in this category...

nVidia GPU Users - 59.11%
ATI GPU Users - 32.98%
Intel Users - 6.22% - not even worth it imo

Intel CPU users - 72.37%
AMD CPU users - 27.63% - needs to rise - AMD is awesome

75.92% Of gamers have a Microphone
17.25% Do not

Mozilla Firefox - 63.05% - I guess most gamers are firefox lovers
Microsoft Internet Explorer - 19.82%
Google Chrome - 11.56% - needs to increase

Norton AntiVirus - 1.78% -
iTunes - 30.73% - expected this to be higher
TeamSpeak - 17.99%
Ventrilo - 17.38% - same with TS and Vent

Here are just a handful of the stats in there. Very interesting and I usually take it every time steam asks me to so I've been seeing some things change (Like firefox rising in the past few years).

Aye interesting stuff .. I take part in these too when they come up, and it's actually comforting to know that I'm amongst gamers with similar set-ups hehe.

cool stats :) most of it makes sense, but I'm saddened to see IE above Chrome. It's cool to see that Windows 7 has already overtaken XP... 7 really is a good OS, it's nice to see it getting the praise it deserves (also, I'm glad that XP is still, without a doubt, higher than Vista XD)

too many laptops have intel processors built-in :\ as you said yourself, the market needs moar AMD.
