View Full Version : Legalize Cannabis (or keep it illegal) in the US?

I wanna know your thoughts. First off, the disclaimer.

I don't condone the use of illegal drugs, nor am I affiliated with Gamers-Forum.com in anyway whatsoever (other than being a member *cough*)...

Secondly, if you are not educated about cannabis, both its legalities as well as its existence as a crop, please refrain from spamming this thread by arguing points that in no way serve the purpose of this thread.

Finally, whether you want it legalized or not, your opinion is welcome here! The illegal use of marijuana is prohibited. Therefore, please also refrain from stories of using it illegally :) Remember...the Internetz knows everything.

Now, onward to the intelligent conversation. MODS, if this is against forum policies, I apologize in advance.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

In California, Proposition 19 failed. Now, the DEA and FDA want to create a gel capsule capable of giving you the same high as smoking cannabis, except for the fact that it contains an "extract of THC" as well as extra unnatural chemicals to enhance the results of taking the so-called medicine.

As you can probably guess, yes...the pharmaceutical companies as well as the DEA and FDA, the main nemesis of cannabis legalization, are 100% for this product as (of course) it will profit them and keep marijuana illegal.

The true history of marijuana legalization is a very angering time line. I believe it was 1920ish when Popular Science magazine claimed that cannabis would be a BILLION dollar crop. BILLION. Do you know how many people used the word "billion" back in the early 1900's?

Yeah...hardly anyone. Back then "million" was like today's "billion".

To shorten this particular post, I'm going to stop here. For the record, I am for the legalization (or the anti-prohibition) of cannabis.

How did it fail in California -_- It would so get them out of debt, my goodness.

I don't do drugs, but good lord just legalize it. People are doing it anyway, it's just as bad if not better than alcohol, and it would make them SO. MUCH. MONEY.

Also, good lord at the "weed pill" .... .... ..... so it's okay to take a pill to give you the same effect, instead of a naturally occuring plant? o_o IT IZ NOT ILLEGAL IF IT IZ A PILL.

Mind blown.

Only good legal weed is bring back to the federal government and help out the debt we are in. I believe that is the only reason it should be legalized. If it does become legal they need to put rules and other things on it to try and keep the little ones from doing it.

Money is what we need and money is all that weed is good for.

I will laugh when weed does come legal sooner or later and people think its ok to smoke and drink, or smoke in public XD

How did it fail in California...

There are speculations that the HUGE amount of gang members/leaders, crime rings, etc registered to vote against it seeing as how it would totally bankrupt probably one of the largest distribution areas of their business.

Good point. What many of the nay-sayers don't realize is that in fact they are working on the rules around legalizing it. Some of those include: No driving under the influence of THC, no smoking or distributing it around minors (minors wouldn't be able to enter shops), also the same rules apply concerning the work force and using cannabis, whereas drug tests would be used to determine if an employee was high at work.

Yeah, that makes sense... But still.... Do you know how many people smoke in California? XD I imagine more than the amount of criminals. But I suppose a lot of people in Southern California might be against it as it generally runs less liberal (except for the huge amount of minorities). But still...

It got decriminalized, though, didn't it?

Yes, it was decriminalized by the state, but the FEDs and of course Obama threatened to hit California hard with penalties had the legalization taken effect.

Hmm...imagine that...the Federal Government imposing threats upon the state, even tho...the state.....is....supposed to....constitutionally....make up their own....

OH NO! THE FBI JUST BROKE INTO MY HOUSE! I'M DOOMED FOR EVEN POSTING THE TRUTH!!! AAAHHH!

lol jk y'all :twitcy:

Well, weed has never shown any harmful effects, so the only reason they keep it illegal is so they can fine people for having it. Plus the fact that weed can lead to other drugs. I highly doubt anybody is just gonna wake up one day and start smokin crack, the people they do the hard drugs start with weed and work their way to other ones.

I personally prefer it illegal, but i dont doubt it'll be legalized.

I'm for the legalization and decriminalization of it. I believe if cigarettes and alcohol are legal than why not. Alcohol has worse effects on your mind than cannabis

Yes, indeed they only fine people to make revenue, which is a huge reason they truly don't want it legalized. Over 800k people were busted for marijuana possession or marijuana-related crimes in 2009 alone. Oh I'm sorry, in California, 2009...alone. One state, 800k+ busts in one year. Lots of money for the state.

As far as it being considered a gate-way drug, this has been debunked. It's more likely that alcohol will lead people to do drugs due its availability. But...then again, the true gate-way is the desire to do drugs, or experience their highs, or experiment with altering your mind. (same thing really)

legalize it, prohibition isn't working. It's costing us billions to try and stop it and yet they are not making a dent.

Exactly.

It dawned on me not too long back that I had never even heard of marijuana, nor did I think it was cool to smoke cigarettes, until about 15 yrs ago when a husky D.A.R.E. representative came in and talked to a bunch of 10 year olds about drugs.

Hmm...

Suddenly smoking cigarettes was cool and I was a little curious as to what this marijuana was he was talking about...considering he was a cop (good guy).
