quick question related to math

I am doing some quick number crashing and im trying to figure in 8% sales tax.

right now what i got is 24.99*6 /.8 = 187.42

is that correct or did I screw up?

it should be *.8 for 8% tax.

when I do that I get 119.95 >.>

Another reason I hate numbers >.O

24.99 *6 = 149.94

149.94 * 0.08 = 11.99

11.99 + 149.94 = 161.93 total

I realized I put 0.8 instead of 0.08 for 8% in my last post - it was a mistake.
