Oh my, I am truly distressed to see that their is not a dubstep thread yet.

Dubstep is a genre of electronic music that generally has loads of bass, awesome drum patterns, and a 140bpm tempo. It originated in the early 2000s but has quickly matured. There are many, many subgenres of dubstep, some obviously better than others, so don't judge the genre as a whole until you've heard some of everything.

--- Great Index of Dubstep (In Progress) --
Here are some sick artists and some of their tunes that I recommend. I will be adding to this list regularly (hopefully). Listed alphabetically by artist. I will accept recommendations for this list.

2562
A producer with a bit of techno influence. Very skippy beats, in an awesome way. Somewhat wobby at times but not abrasive.
Moog Dub (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5toXOdZJ_h4)

Boxcutter
Somewhat wobbly, but not abrasive. Chill and glitchy. Pretty trippy too.
Glyphic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_S5X8PYPZK4)
Chiral (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tC-wSjj5gA)

Benga
Benga is one of the original dubstep producers. He has a unique sound that I can't really describe accurately. It's wobbly but not abrasive.
Crunked Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVKboRPgu0U)
Night (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMR5K2QWfJk) (Benga & Coki)

Clubroot
This guy produces tunes that I can only describe as ethereal. This is honestly some of the most beautiful stuff I've ever heard. His basslines are thick but not heavy, if that makes sense. Amazing stuff.
Orbiting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4371atJyaA)
Toe to Toe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fel6olX3BNw)
Waterways (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meArIEoWl8Q)

Digital Mystikz
Digital Mystikz are producers Mala and Coki. They have a darker sound than most of what I've posted so far. Not very wobbly, definitely not abrasive.
Anti-War Dub (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVpjPuzlvus)
Mountain Dread March (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmmH8WCD_y0)

Eleven Tigers
Loads of different influences in his music but it all comes out being at least approximately dubstep. Most of his tracks are really chill and pretty euphoric. The following two tunes are meant to be played consecutively, and in the best case scenario, gaplessly. His whole album is gapless and he makes amazing transitions between songs.
Songs For You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a6YB8I8VEI)
Couldn't (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQwMYZ9F7ls)

Scuba
Scuba produces dubstep with loads of ambient and minimal techno influence. His tunes tend to be chill and euphoric.
Latch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF0F0isyx6w)
Three Sided Shape (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRWIzV51Z1E)
So You Think You're Special (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF6PuBMPcDQ) (chiller, less dubsteppy tune)

i can't say i enjoy dubstep too much. I like electronic music, but most dubstep i've heard has these weird womp womp noises, and i can't stand that.

Maybe you were listening to the bad ones.
I think dubsteps are really only good if you have a huge sub woofer and neighbors who don't mind the shaking.
but other than that I don't really listen to them often ;-)

Yeah, the most popular dubstep tends to be the WOMP WOMP WUBBAWUBBA type, however there's a lot of chill, relaxed dubstep that doesn't have abrasive bass. :)

Check out some of these artists:

Scuba
Clubroot
Boxcutter
Benga
Digital Mystikz
2562

(Individual songs transferred to first post for neatness)

And, a bonus:
le1ca
I produce a little bit. I'm not very good but you can find some of my tunes on Soundcloud. I have some chill tunes and some abrasive tunes depending on my mood. I would love some constructive criticism.
le1ca's sounds on SoundCloud (http://soundcloud.com/le1ca)
Tunes I recommend listening to:
le1ca - Yttrium (http://soundcloud.com/le1ca/yttrium) (More abrasive)
le1ca - Fallen (http://soundcloud.com/le1ca/fallen) (Really chill but gets wobbly after the 2nd drop)
le1ca - Untitled (http://soundcloud.com/le1ca/utrtrr) (I don't think this even qualifies as dubstep but whatever)

He's actually one of my least favorite producers. I hate that robot-noise dubstep.

I like the stuff that can send me into space without sounding like a robot apocalypse. Like Clubroot and Eleven Tigers and such.

Wait... AUGH HOW DID I FORGET TO POST ELEVEN TIGERS IN MY PREVIOUS POST
Here we go...

Eleven Tigers

but a robot apocalypse just sounds incredibly appealing.

Not when you just wanna chill

The robots don't wait for your approval before they invade. Generally they choose to start their apocalypse while you're NOT prepared for it.

You make a good point (though not intentionally). Dubstep with a sudden unexpected BVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV drop can be pretty fun. For parties and such. Even one-man parties if you ever throw those for yourself.

Hahaha hay I throw one man parties thats normally my chill time haha But I like full on hardcore Like uhhhmmmmm hmmm first rock artists I can find on my computer Is Breaking Benjamin and thats I will not bow lovely into especially when just like dubstep you have a huge sub woofer and very large speakers like the calm before the storm effect

hey guys, i uploaded a couple more tracks to my soundcloud if anyone is interested
le1ca's sounds on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free (http://soundcloud.com/le1ca)

i also made a dubstep mix that i'm thinking about uploading but might not since it'd just be a pain in the ass. if anyone really wants to hear it, let me know and i'll dropbox or something.

leica, are you able to do remixes? I think you should try to do some dubstep dawn of ashes stuff. that'd be interesting to hear.

And also, do you know of any stuff like comissioner, except better?

leica

I'm actually working on my first ever remix right now. I just uploaded a 16-bar demo of it to soundcloud and I'm putting the final touches on the finished version right now. I'll try it but there are no guarantees.

edit: and i cant say ive ever heard of commissioner

comissioner is this terrible collaboration between the guy from suicide silence and big chocolate. its basically deathcore that sounds like its been chopped and screwed with a few womps for good measure. i feel like it's something that would be awesome if done right, but...

anyways....very bassy and 140 bpm, but when i look up the older dubstep stuff like skream it sounds absolutely nothing like what's popular these days (skrillex, etc) so what exactly makes a dubstep song dubstep as opposed to some other style of electronic (like techno or house)

btw im likin those tracks in the first post
