As I said on another thread it's still here .. but on some of the recently added forums the option hasn't been switched on. Certain forums that have been around for ages still have it .. but it's one of those things that will get turned on in due time I'm sure.

Which boards are having the issue?

As jango said, some boards don't have the option enabled and for some boards, I did it on purpose (like Forum Talk) - other boards could be a mistake (or I could have just forgotten)

Seems to be the new boards for rookies/members and I'm guessing the vets board too.

ah, thanks. Got it now. Just forgot to edit that in.

We have so many random mods. Almost Forgot about the youtube thing was a mod.

It would be cool if the poster could turn off embedding for a particular post. For example, in my dubstep thread, there are gonna be loads and loads of youtube links.

edit: some forums i use have a tag where you can put the video url to embed, while plain youtube links remain merely links

i personally love the auto-embed, but it might be nice to be able to turn it off. If only you could put a thing at the bottom, like when you leave a post it says "show signature" "automatically parse links in text" "disable smilies in text" there could be a "disable youtube auto-embed" is that at all possible?

You could use the no parse tags and post a link but it won't be clickable.

That part isn't an option there because it's a modification to the forum, not actually part of the original script - would have been nice though.

If you know PHP I'm sure you can edit the mod.

edit: or just replace the mod with one that has tags

It's not just php, there are many more edits to quite a few files for any mod to work. And what we have now works so I never found a need to edit mods that work.

But threads like the dubstep thread that contain loads and loads of youtube links need to have a way to prevent autoembed. That many flash instances will cause something to slow down if not break. Luckily, I use a flashblock add-on, but yesterday Jacob told me that that thread actually crashed his browser.

Each youtube instance requires ~25mb of RAM. In a thread with 20 videos, that's half a gig of memory. I know my machine doesn't have that much spare RAM when I'm browsing, but you guys are gamers so your machines can probably handle it.

just use the noparse tags and include the link - although the link won't be clickable.

And no system is perfect and even though I know a lot about php and how vB runs, I wouldn't call myself an expert. But maybe in the future, the modification we're using will have an update that will allow you to embed on your own, but for now, this will have to do. For those having issues can either use the flashblock addon or maybe thread openers linking to a lot of videos use the spoiler tags to hide the videos - that way, the users expand the videos individually to view.

Shame there's not an aeva plug-in for vb .. it owns all tbh.

i tried it, didn't work. It didn't even show up, but it's probably cuz i used a [code] tag right above it.

no, I think it's just the two mods interfering with each other. Both spoiler and video embeds are external modifications to the forum. I posted in your thread there and said that I left a message for the guy who created the mod, so if there's a way around it, he'll be able to tell us.

spoiler is a good idea
and i just realized anonym.to links to youtube vids prob wouldn't be parsed so i could use those to prevent autoembed
