Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on Dragon Age 2 are. We've known for awhile that we won't be truely free to create our own character, with the protagonist being a human (male or female) called Hawke.

I found a dev diary where Bioware discuss the reasons for the change and a bit about the game. (http://train2game.wordpress.com/2011/01/11/dragon-age-ii-story-developer-diary/)

What do you think?

I think it's a good Direction, I tend to get more engrossed if the Hero (me) talks and has Dialogue.

Definitely. Although the male Hawke in the trailer I posted (Did you see it?) Seemed a little off. I hope we get to hear what a female Hawke sounds like soon.

Yoh you really rush in the games like "get the job done". I go everywhere and do all the side missions and pick up all the items and things, but then again I don't play that game none stop, but that is cool that you finish the game that fast at what level did you finish the game?

That is quite an impressive time for Dragon Age! I'm quite tempted to pre-order Dragon Age 2. After all, there aren't really games I want until it comes out. It'd save buying all the games I want in March at once!

So, will it be a male or female Hawke for you?

Dear Guys and Girls,

Will you have had to have played the original Dragon Age to understand DA2? Or has it been said that you can get away with not playing the first ones?

I think you'll need to at least be familiar with the lore of the Dragon Age world to understand some concepts in the game. Some of them are briefly explained in the video I posted (http://train2game.wordpress.com/2011/01/11/dragon-age-ii-story-developer-diary/) and some of the characters in it do have minor roles in the original game.

Still, seeing as Dragon Age 2 will be based around the story of one character, I think you'll still be able to enjoy it.

I'd highly recommend playing Dragon Age: Origins not only because it'll introduce you to the lore of the world, but also because it's a brilliant game with great characters. (http://train2game.wordpress.com/2010/07/08/all-train2game-students-should-appreciate-dragon-age-origins/)

You could probably pick it up rather cheaply from Amazon or another online retaiiler now.

The ultimate edition which includes the DLC too costs just £15. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Age-Origins-Ultimate-DVD/dp/B0042RUDNG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1296478077&sr=8-2)

That's a bargain! I feel like a right mug for spending money on the Witch Hunt DLC (http://train2game.wordpress.com/2010/08/26/bioware-reveal-dragon-age-witch-hunt-dlc/) last year...

Witch Hunt (http://train2game.wordpress.com/2010/08/26/bioware-reveal-dragon-age-witch-hunt-dlc/) was entertaining enough but very, very short. We're talking about 3 hours here. And it doesn't really answer anything when you get to the end either.

Apparently - at least at the time of writing - the PC version isn't up for a couple more hours.

I'll take a look at the demo on PC of course! And apparently, completing it will unlock items for the main game. (http://train2game.wordpress.com/2011/02/03/dragon-age-2-demo-confirmed/) :lipsrsealed:

If anyone is interested, here's another article in which the Dragon Age 2 Lead Designer talks about the game. (http://train2game.wordpress.com/2011/02/22/an-interesting-read-for-train2game-students-biowares-mike-laidlaw-on-game-design/)

Also, has anyone played the demo yet?

Well, I spent the last month playing the original through to completion. Played the demo when it came out and wasn't terribly impressed. Debated about whether I wanted to buy the game rift away for almost $60, but finally decided I would on Saturday. Since then I have been glued to my computer chair every night after work.

Initial thoughts: The story telling in this game is superb. It is immerse and entertaining. There were complaints that the game is too linear, but imo it is very dynamic, and the linear aspects MAKE SENSE. This game is about the story, and like any author worth his salt will tell you, every story has an arc.

Some of the hallmarks of Origins are back, and you will appreciate how seamlessly this game pairs with your own choices as the Warden, if you have a game save to pull from. Some familiar faces are back, as well as old characters with some updates to their appearance. For instance, Fleet has undergone a major makeover.

I was somewhat disappointed that you cannot change your companions' armor. You can upgrade it, but the only items you can equip on them are weapons, rings, amulets and belts. It is, understandable why the devs went this rout, but still a bummer when you pick up a great item that is clearly for a rogue, but your Hawk is a warrior. Still, it just means more gold for selling those items!

Graphics are stunning, as you would expect. And if you get the PC version, (and your machine can handle it) there is a high res texture pack available from the official site. Either way, you will not be disappointed.

Be ready for a massive amount of enemies in most battles. For the most part there are several lower-health enemies that can be quickly dispatched if you use the right abilities, leaving just a few harder baddies for you to work through, until they suddenly receive reinforcements.

If you liked the combat system in Origins, you will feel right at home in DA2. That's not to say its all exactly the same. Combat feels more fluid, fast paced, gory, and altogether satisfying than Origins ever did. There are some fun new tactics options to customize your companions' behavior as well. Some of the abilities will be familiar, but many of them behave differently.

All in all, its everything it was hyped up to be. If you haven't played Origins, however, get it and play it though. Not only is it an excellent game, but you will appreciate DA2 much more for your effort.

I hated the first DAO, and now in DA2 they're taking out 1 important part of ANY RPG, character customization -.- I have trouble calling the first DA an RPG, and now they're taking DA2 even further from that genre. Its getting closer and closer to an action/adventure game every time.

Bioware are just not any good at making RPGs -.-

Well maybe we have to change our perspective off RPG, I thought DAO where a good rpg and the same with ME. ME 2 where more action but I still see it as a rpg in some way.
