Hey all, recently built a desktop (i7 2600K, ASUS P8P67 MOBO, Gigabyte HD 6850 GPU, etc...). My issue is this: I have the 6850 connected to my HDTV (Samsung 530, 1080P), and everytime I enter a game, the graphics resolution changes to 640x480 automatically, the mouse arrow is not centered to click buttons properly...making all this impossible to play games. Tried rolling back the driver, no luck. So hoping you guys may have any other ideas I could try. Thanks in advance!

PS: W1CKEDTW1STED sent me to you guys for help, he said you guys wouldn't let me down... :p

glad wicked referenced you to the forum ;)

My first try would be to download Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/) and use those video drivers instead of the ones you're trying now (though rolling back was a good idea!) Omega drivers are going to give you TONS of control over how your GPU works - especially with alternate/dual displays. They're basically the only way I ever get multiple displays to work with windows anymore (on any rig!)

If you need help navigating the various settings and options in the Omega Drivers control panel, I can try to help you, but you don't seem technically unable judging by your post so I trust you to poke around and find the settings that will help you... nonetheless, never hesitate to ask for help!

If that doesn't work, are you plugging in using HDMI/DVI or VGA? Can you switch to the other? I don't even know if that would make a difference, but if I were in a pinch and had the extra cable/converter laying around I'd give it a shot.

Hah, thanks Dili! And good ideas too! I had him try some things as well while I was at his house but nothing seemed to help.

For what it's worth, I had him try it on his regular monitor too and same thing. :( Which leads me to believe it's definitely a video card driver or issue. Not sure about a different connection type, that's definitely worth a shot.

I'm hooking it up via HDMI, Omega Drivers doesn't seem to have any drivers for current-gen ATI cards at the moment (I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit)

I did try hooking my rig up to my regular monitor with DVI, acted the same way. That might of been because I either didn't reset the PC or the settings were still for an HDTV. I got fed up right around this time so I threw in the towel and started searching for answers lol. I may just have to invest in a multi-display setup instead of one large display if I can't get this to work properly, I built my rig with 3D gaming in mind after all.

I'll get back on it tomorrow and see if I can at least get my regular monitor working properly first. My TV does have a dedicated VGA connection, gonna try that one as well, see if it changes the resolution on me again. Sucks I won't have my audio through my sound system, part of the reason I want my HDMI to work correctly :(

reinstall the card (physically) - if you have an onboard GPU or a spare one, install that one, remove all graphics drivers, then put the current card back in.

Sometimes just rewiring/reconnecting stuff helps more than anything else.

And is the issue with a certain game? Or all games?

So I went ahead and did a complete uninstall of the display driver on my computer using Driver Sweeper...still didn't solve anything :(...I have a spare GPU, but it's very outdated and doesn't have HDMI support, which is what I'm focusing on to work right now, so I haven't physically done anything with my PC yet.

What I have solved this morning though, is when entering a game (I've been using Crysis as my test subject), I stopped the TV from going into 640x480 by changing the aspect ratio on the TV to "Screen Fit"...still having issues though. Crysis main menu is still acting the same way with the off-set mouse and resolution still being off. It's not as bad as it was, but it's still there.

I really think it's just a driver issue at this point. Others who have bought my exact card have ran into buggy issues as well (did some more Googling this morning). I'm tempted to just go purchase an nVidia card and hopefully put this mess behind me ha. Hate the fact that I may just have to wait for an update to come out to start gaming on my desktop.

Try to contact Gigabyte and see if they have a solution for it. I've been using their motherboards for years and their support is pretty good.

So here's an update on my dilemma:

Went out and got a Geforce 460 card today to replace my 6850...did the whole uninstall drivers completely thing, installed the card, drivers, etc etc...Now I have it connected to my HDTV via VGA/DVI (TV has a VGA PC input)...guess what? SAME EXACT PROBLEM!!!

Really running out of ideas here...is it possible my MOBO's PCI-E slot is messed up somehow? Even though it's displaying 2D just fine? It's just 3D games it freaks out. I guess my TV could be a possibility as well, but I don't see how that would make a game crash and graphics not to load properly.

That's a really weird issue. I doubt it's the PCI-E slot. If you have another pci-e slot, try to install it there and see. But I highly doubt that's the issue (I could be wrong, I've seen weirder).

So you ruled out Driver and GPU as the main issue. Along with the connection since you've tried different connections.

My next best guess is that the operating system is messed up somewhere. That's the only other common factor that could be doing this. It's definitely not a ram, cpu, mobo, or any other hardware that I'd suspect.

It is a really weird issue, I've never encountered anything like this before...My next thought once I posted my last post was the fact that my CPU (i7-2600K) has on-die graphics...I thought maybe when games were running, the CPU would take over, and not have enough graphics power and resulting in my bugs, but I have a P67 MOBO. What I read was P67 can't use the on-die graphics no matter what, so I guess that gets ruled out...

I guess I'm gonna try contacting ASUS and see if they have an idea, if not I guess I'll be exchanging the board for another one and hope for the best.

Wow, that sucks Jay. Hope the swap in mobo will fix the problem. I'm out of ideas too.

I agree with you, I don't think the TV is the issue either.
