I don't know if this is even remotely possibly or has already been suggested, but what i think would be cool would be something like a little chat box. Something like what Facebook has in the lower right hand corner.

I think similar things have been discussed, usually its voted against.

We do have IRC though, which is sort of what you're looking for.

Ok, new question haha. IRC?

Someone suggests that every other month.

But as lemon pointed out, we have the IRC channel for live chatting. We don't have an actual shoutbox or chatbox on the forum because it would take away from actual forum activity and it isn't as easy to monitor.

and you can get more info on our irc channel here: Gamers-Forum IRC Chatroom! - Gamers Forum (http://www.gamers-forum.com/showthread.php?t=13264)

could we get a java IRC widget (perhaps a mibbit widget) for the forum? How hard would that be to implement?

You can have links to mibbit connecting you to the GF IRC.

We have a great IRC chatroom.. if anyone wants to check it out the link is in my sig. We normally have 10-15 users chatting.

yes, which is, in essence, just as good... but to the even less technically inclined we could have an embedded mibbit widget inside the forum's website.

Gamers don't usually coincide with technically un-inclined, and the simple directions that already exist in our IRC (http://www.gamers-forum.com/showthread.php?t=13264) thread are pretty fool proof... but... wouldn't it be cool to have a widget on our own site? XD

The point of having the chatroom on IRC is so that it ISN'T on Gamers-forum.com. I was once on a forum, and once they added a shoutbox type thing, nobody ever posted anymore. Everything they had to say was said on the shoutbox. Putting a widget or whatever on this site, if that means what I think it means, would defeat the purpose sorta. Point is, having a way to chat with others on the site would take away from amount of posting going on.

I agree with Eps and everyone who has said the same. I think it would be a silly addition. It would be good for a general website without a forum, but it would make the forum redundant; I like the forum :(

huh. I'll hear the argument; I retract my sentiments for the embedded mibbit widget.

I have to say I don't really see how it would detract from posting when we already have an IRC channel and that doesn't detract from posting o.o

It's different though with IRC. IRC is for really random shizzle, where the forum is for random shizzle and serious stuff. It's just a more informative way to share things, using the forum. Everyone can post their own opinion in their own time, whereas with IRC, the conversation just flies by! Sometimes you don't have chance to get a word in edgeway :)

because it's offsite, it's a chatroom. Maybe not me or you, but lots of people would only post in the shoutbox at the bottom/side/whatever of the page instead of going in the topics. I've seen it kill forums before

Ya, it makes a lot of sense not to. I have been enlightened. Ohmmmmmmmm....

Now that I think about it, maybe an IRC box on the side wouldn't do anything, but it's not really necessary. Most people use xchat anyways, and it would probably be very small and not....good enough lol
