So, my question is, are you more likely to join a forum because they are using vBulletin or not?

Reason I ask, I'm thinking about switching my site to vBulletin and wanted to know if it really matters to users.

Thanks,
Ryan

I hate vBulletin. My favorite widely-used forum software is SMF, and the forum I administrate uses a stripped-down version of Gazelle, which is actually software for a BitTorrent website.

Yes, I love Vbulletin. Almost every forum I'm on that's successful uses VB.

I already spoke to you earlier about it, so for me, it doesn't really matter. As long as it's usable. I've used plenty of softwares in the past and I've joined tons more that don't use vB.

And I wouldn't say a forum's software = success. If that was the case, everyone would go for vB.

Doesn't matter at all to me, but, then again, this is the first and only forum I've ever been a part of.

As long as it looks nice and runs smoothly, I don't think it should matter much.

Yeah I know. Just thought I'd shoot for general consensus and see what people thought. :)

this is exactly how I feel and saved me the time of having to write it myself

it's the forum software that this forum (and many others) runs on :)

It doesn't matter. Infact, I personally think IPB and also XenForo are better forum softwares than VBulletin now. 4.0 is very buggy.

I gotta say that I agree with this. It just doesn't matter to me what kind of forum it is, so long as the people at said forum are fun and nice to talk to. That, and variety, insofar as the different topics and sub-forums. Those are pretty much the only deciding factors for me. So, I voted for Doesn't matter.

Yes, because vbulletin have more function than any other forum. Beside, it also have great skin/theme compare to any other forum outside there.

Well actually, phpBB and SMF are two of the many free ones that have a LOT of functions/modifications as well as great themes. So from personal experience, I wouldn't say that functionality and theme "goodness" is exclusive to vB. Tons of other softwares that do just as well on these end.

Although, I think that vB support is great. I've spoken to the guys that are involved in developing the software over the years and they're great guys and always willing to help.

Also as BlackPhazor pointed out, vb4 is still pretty buggy. That's one reason why we haven't changed yet. Another reason is time, third is license.
