Greetings,

I'm new to this forum and i hate that my first post is somewhat of a complaint or problem. Let me try and be brief and explain my situation but i want to be descriptive enough so everyone understands where i am coming from.

I have recently moved to an African country to manage a project for my workplace. The problem is i love video games. I didn't give much thought to the fact that i would be out of country. I was thinking I would simply gather together 10 titles or so before i left and take my time to play through them. This turned out to be incredibly disappointing. I never realized how much i depend on the internet for my gaming experience. I laterally can not sit down and play a single player game like i used to be able to.

In short i just love the simple concept of competition, whether it be FPS, RTS, MMO, or sports. I now notice the fact that i need interactions with real people when i play my video games. It is kind of something to reflect on from a personal standpoint, but i need help! :D

Fellow multiplayer gamers my question is: Possibly someone has been in the same situation as me and has restricted internet services and found a way to bypass or work around thier problems to get a steady internet for games.

Currently i have a "DSL" connection that i believe is shared between multiple users illegally. I just started paying 250$ a month for this internet that gives me a constant 300ping and .8mb download rate. Any suggestions

As for your internet connection issue, is there any kind of wireless internet access you could use? Not WiFi but CDMA or GSM based? Just an idea. I'm not even sure if that's possible, but thought I'd throw that out there.

You're paying for internet but other people are using it? How would you know that? And are you connected wireless or by wire?

If it's wireless, put a password on the connection, and if it's wired..cut the wires that you don't recognize.

sounds like you need to find a different ISP or something... I don't have anything better to add that hasn't been suggested in this thread already (I'd point especially to Linux's post, if it's applicable.)

good luck figuring that out - that sucks :(

well if you are paying for the internet you should have the modem right? And the only way I can think of people to leech your connection is through your wireless. To secure your wireless you could just turn it off outright, this is what I do for my linksys router:

1. type "cmd" in the run window.
2. Type "ipconfig" in the command window
3. locate the "default gateway IP address"
4. type that IP in a browser url bar.
5. at this point you have to enter ea password for the router, the default admin password is always "admin"
6. look under the wireless tab for "SSID Broadcast" and set it to off if you are not using it.

7. Click save.

hmmmm if you have a smart phone that can be used as a wifi hotspot you may be able to use its wireless for your gaming needs assuming of course you have the xbox 360 S model or a PS3 just a thought I wonder if it could work

You could try an Internet speed accelerator, there are some quite good ones out there that optimize and speed up your network connection and all your internet related activities. This translates into a faster internet connection, faster browsing and email, faster downloads, faster online gaming, improved Skype connection. Just do a search on Google.

Using your phone as a hotspot probably wouldn't be fast enough. If it wont let you connect to the game servers or certain web sites you are probably being limited by your internet service provider in which case all you can do is switch. Besides that I can't think if a reason you can't connect
