I bought this pc about one year ago and it worked fine until about some month ago.

If im trying to play a game the pc turns black, the screen is black but the computer is still on(But I cant do anything)

Its only if I play games and sometimes I can play for hours while other times it turns off in about 45 minutes.

I need some help cause I dont know what to do.

If Your Pc Has Been Banged Nocked Could Cause This

Might be a problem with the transformer in your actual screen/television you are playing your PC on.

if it's just when gaming, it's most likely the graphics card. It could be overheating and shutting down or just plain old not working. Only way to confirm is to switch it out for another one and see if the results are the same.

SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php)

If it's running at alarmingly high temp (55+ C) You'll want to clean it out ASAP or you could risk melting or ruining some parts.

Speedfan link by ilyich is good. And you don't have to change anything - overheating can occur due to a lot of dust piling up or the fan/cooling system malfunctioning.

Good link but I'd say 65-70 Degrees Celsius is dangerous. I've run GPUs in the past at 60+ without a problem. My current one runs at 65C when I'm gaming and idle's at around 55. It's pretty high but it's been like that since I got it and I never had any issues. Had it over 2 years now.

speedfan is nifty. I took a screen shot to compare later so I can see any gradual increase in temp.

Also, back on topic, this could be a software issue as well. And I would be interested to know if your running a game that requires a cd.

Im downloading speedfan now.....

done, looking at it now and the readings are:

the gpu is running 65-67 celsius in idle
I pretty shore thats the problem, right?

Started a game to see the temp. the gpu got int 77 degrees before I turned it off.

I know that dust can slow the computer down but how do you clean it in a good way, Ive heard about vacuumcleaners but many disclaim that approach.

you buy compressed air cans. It shouldnt cost to much.

77C is a bit hot for a GPU.

As bob said, compress air is good, but you could use a regular vacuum cleaner at home as long as you're careful about using too much force or sucking up and cutting the wires.

You could also get a GPU cooler - there are extra fans that you can buy that help either vent the hot air out or blow cool air in.

I wasn't sure what to put, cause my old one still ran extremely hot at 55-60 (and then started shooting up to 110-120+) because of dust and animal hair build up. But yeah. If it gets much higher than that it's a problem.

Strange that your pc didnt melt with those temps.

My old 8600GT used to do 130-140 degrees when I played. Took me a week to notice even though I lagged massively, I just thought it was a driver issue. I later found out the fan failed on the gpu and wasn't cooling it at all.

And I love XFX because they replaced it for me for free. Replacement ran at 50 degrees while gaming. But it was a much smaller card compared to the one I have now so 65 during gaming isn't all that bad, although I still need a cooler.

Typically when the screen turn black or anything in between, its maybe due to your graphic card or maybe your display driver.

Just to let you all know. I took in the pc where I bought it and they have been kepping it the last ten days, Ive heard they had to order in some spare parts and that I shell have it back in a few days.

But anyway thanks for the help you all gave me.

ps: I think the mods can close this thread if they want to.

Heh, Remember one of my older PC's, Think it was a Intel P4 dual core. 5 years after purchase and neglecting to clean it out often enough, the CPU usually ticked in 80-90 Degrees celcius. However, im pretty sure my sensors where broken at that time. Cause it ran most games decently. Hell, One time it supposedly hit 105 so yea!

Gpu on that PC was around 80 idle aswell...
And harddrives was about 40-50 xD

Let me ask you guys something.

If I went and made some specs on a custom built PC on the Alienware website, would you guys give me a 1-10 rating on how well it would play most games?

Be sure to get a list of what spare parts they put in there and if possible, what they cost you. Some places rip you off that way.

We would but open your own thread to keep it all organized :)

p.s. I will give Dell products 0.
