This past week, we brought word that cheeky exploiters were dishing out free Microsoft Points any time somebody refreshed their website. As gamers sat back and refreshed their way to dozens of point codes, Microsoft lost some mad bank in convoluted Moon Bucks.
While some of you may have kicked yourselves for not jumping on the bandwagon, it turns out you might have been lucky not to join in, since Microsoft is leveling justice at anybody who nabbed a freebie at their expense.
Microsoft stated that it lost less than the reported $1.2 million, but will nevertheless do what it can to invalidate any illegitimate codes while taking "the appropriate enforcement on an individual basis." We're not quite sure what the punishments will be, but one could reasonably assume there will be account suspensions, if not outright bans.
This is why we don't try to screw with Xbox Live, folks. Microsoft loves

I would say punish everyone but go after those who found the exploit and caused this situation with legal and civil action. Those who used the points ban them for a while to show them what they did wasnt right.

From a legal standpoint people who visit a website under the impression of getting free MS points havent done anything illegal as there should be plausible denial of knowing it was wasnt sanctioned by microsoft.

The exploiters who distributed the free points are probably getting sued. But the most that can happen for using the free points is account breach and closure.

They can deny it but they should have known that getting anything from a third party site is a no no. Pretty sure in all the microsoft paperwork there is a clause or two they can use to sue the gamers who got the codes.

they can try to, but to sue that many people would be fruitless. Also you are probably going after minors for the majority of those cases witch further complicated the matter.

I basically agree with what he said ^ just sue the site that put it up.

I have no tolerance for people who steal or cheat. Being a gamer, that has always irritated me to no end. I hope they get what's coming to them. http://gamerpoop.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/devil-animated-animation-devil-smiley-emoticon-000386-medium.gif

People just don't learn.

I'm sure we'll hear about something like this in the future again.
