A report in the UK’s Telegraph states that Japan may have only 48 hours to bring its rapidly escalating nuclear crisis under control before it faces a catastrophe “worse than Chernobyl.
According to the report, nuclear safety officials in France say they are “pessimistic” about whether engineers could prevent a meltdown at the Fukushima power plant after a pool containing spent fuel rods overheated and boiled dry.
at the moment there isnt alot of information but if this is true its going to get ugly. Didnt they tell the workers at the plants to gtfo? I remember someone saying that in class a couple of days ago because they are unable to keep them cool. If this is worse than chernobyl I would have to say tens of million of people in the United states are going to be affected and I think Japan will be totally affected by this which wont be pretty.
edit: Cnn reports that "Threat level at Japan nuclear plant now at 5, same threshold as 1979 Three Mile Island incident, safety agency says. "

Hopefully they have some ingenious way of bringing down the temperature cuz an explosion would be terrible.

Ive heard that they have taken a elecric vire to one of the reactors. They hope to start the cooling systems again.

Well I wasn't expecting this :|
I didn't think that there would ever be another Chernobyl, I thought the Japanese had their reactors sorted out with the way they designed them! >_<

Very Scary situation Japan is in and I think they should just turn it off.. Which I understand cause another problem as well. No power yet I think its better then a meltdown... Why risk it...
I'm not sure if they can just cut it off or not. I think I read somewhere they already shut down one or two reactors. So Why not just shut it down if the out come is a meltdown.
What if that happens and everyone in Japan turns into Zombies maybe this is how zombies take over the world!!! Yet i am good at killing Zombies on Cod Black ops so maybe I could help out plus it is an island so thats good..
What if Japan turns into a nuclear waste land!? I've always wanted to visit Japan and take in its culture. Yet I did play Fallout 3 so I think I could handle myself it that were to happen...

Perhaps this is the start of "2012"

This could be the START I said. This could lead to other things, and by the time dec 21 2012 or whatever the date was comes along....

I just made a bad joke, I meant, 9 and a half months until Jan 1, 2012.
But all the nuclear stuff in Japan is making people in the US talk. I saw on the news a senator yelling at some guy that works for the DOE who sets the restrictions and guidelines for plants in the US.
We should just invest in other sources of energy besides nuclear.

I agree. I don't think that Nuclear power is worth it, cuz look what happens when one of them blows.

This nuclear thing is just a repercussion of one of two earthquakes that have happened so far this year, nothing to panic about yet in regards to the 2012 prediction :)
Let's wait and see if there's any other disasters of any sort that happens.

It's not just about worrying about nuclear power stations to fail during natural disasters, but the nuclear waste product isn't something you can recycle. They have to keep the waste under super cooled water for decades otherwise they'll release deadly amounts of radiation. It's really not efficient.
If they want to do nuclear, I'd say try to make perfect nuclear fusion. Although it will release radiation, it's renewable and you don't have to worry about nuclear waste products and keeping it cool for the next 40 years.
Or go Geothermal - that's something you can access 24/7 until the earth dies.
