I've watched a video review on IGN.com, and they said it's a great game, giving it an 8.5, whilst saying this is the strongest RPG release in a while, after Warcraft.

The only negative part of the conclusion that they gave, is that it was unoriginal, as it just tries to be better than the other games. Apart from that, it was showered with nothing but good words and complements.

I was just wondering if anyone from the forum, who has played it for a fair amount of hours, can give me a second opinion on the game :)

Ultimately, is it just another one of those games that will start out awesome, but get really boring and I won't play it after a month or two months of playing it?

It looked like a good game, but like almost every other MMO, you're going to get the MMO Syndrome where the characters all look the same.

Not sure. I have several friends who play it constantly/played it extensively when it came out so that they were the highest level players, etc. They really like it, but I assume it's like every MMO. It's supposed to be fun, though :) I'd like to get it, but don't like pay-to-play games.

The beta was pretty fun and I enjoyed it, its different than WoW where they have random randoms and rifts opening up. I would say give it a shot

I am considering it. I would have purchased it by now if it weren't for my limited funds for this month, as I've already bought Homefront this week, and I'm going to Valencia, Spain next Friday! So I would have to be 100% sure about it :)

Thank you very much! :)

After reading your review and having a look at a few more second opinions, I'm very tempted to buy it!

I know Jango has been into this game. When I asked him how it was all he responded was "fun". =P

Aslo I might be getting into this game myself.

Correction I now have this game. Its pretty good so far, pve wise. Im excited to see if the PVP is better then what wow has.

Soooo I've been playing Rift, and... it's nothing spectacular. Bob has an account that he let me use, so I might play it more just 'cause I am not paying for it and I have friends who play, but... to be honest, Guild Wars is much better, and it is SUPER old. :/ So far it's not really any different than WoW.

It's kinda "meh" to me; not worth paying a subscription for, in my opinion. However, I am not that far in yet, so maybe I will change my mind as I play more! These are my initial thoughts, though.

RIFt looks fun enough, but the 1 negative IS a very big negative.

Its unoriginal, even alittle cliche...The problem with that is that if an MMORPG doesnt have SOMETHING unique to it, then it wont be around for long.

The MMORPG industry, and the modelling industry, are alike in that aspect, really =S Be unique or gtfo!!

RIFT looks like a good game, though, worth a shot, but another game like that was Aion Online for me.

That game looks all unique and special and GREAT GRAPHICS! Well thats all the game really is, good graphics, everything else really is a joke. I'm afraid that without something to make RIFT noticeable amongst the army of other aspiring games, RIFT will just fade into the background like Lineage 2, LotRO, and AoC, no one ever talks about those anymore cause AoC is a ripoff from several MMOs, LotRO expected to be epic win just cause its lord of the rings! No such thing, and Lineage 2 is a sequel that did not make it to the level of its predecessor.

Aion Online for example, spent its first month and a half as "THEE game that'll finally end WoWs reign!" Well that never happened, because NCsoft cannot keep up with the rate that Blizzard releases new stuff, and just how well it integrates itself into the game, despite it being "new content", well they tried that with Aion, and it not only happened incredibly infrequently, but also did NOT integrate well! After a few months of steady decline, Aion has now, just like many others before is, faded into the background.

I am afraid that RIFT will do this too if it doesnt prove its worth in the future. If RIFT can keep being good and progressing? It might eventually take over WoW in the future.

But truth be told, many people claim that this or that game will take out WoW, but most of those people think it'll happen on release day, that in 1 day WoW is gonna get completely headshotted to death by some new and special game.

That, in hernest truth, will never happen.

If a game is to take out WoW, they'll have to be great, no, GREATER than great, to eventually shove WoW out of the way.

RIFT might, but all of the people who claim that it'll be so? Are naive.

RIFT is deffinately give it a shot, but if the first 2 months of none BETA hold NO news about new content whatsoever, not even a patch? I would raise a red flag!

Definitely Guild Wars 2! I'm getting it for sure :3 It's promising to be something new and exciting and trying to stray from the "WoW clone" design that other MMOs (like Rift) are stuck using. Rift is definitely not HORRIBLE or anything; it's just nothing new - and I wouldn't pay a subscription fee for something that wasn't bringing something really different. Guild Wars 2 won't have a subscription fee, though ;3

I played beta, thought it was pretty decent. So on a whim, bought the game. Played it for about 3 or 4 days and wandered right back to WoW >_< I personally think the game is really cool- The way the character skill trees and abilities are set up are really cool and unique and the Rifts are also a neat idea. Only thing I didnt like was the small amount of people on- makes it hard to ask quesions/get help.... So, even though I enjoyed it I somehow got sucked right back into WoW- I think I need help getting out of its addicting clutches! :P

It's one of those simple and elegant games, with a fantastic story line, that you easily fall in love with :) the visuals of the original game were way ahead of it's time, compared to other online RPG games.

I wonder how saph even played the game without noticing that unlike any other MMO out there, rift has dynamic content.

meaning things happen, all the time, that change your settings or change events into something unexpected.

I could sit on wow farming mobs all day and I know what is going to happen. On rift, there is active content that could literally sweep the area and change it.

Another example are the footholds that raiders from the rifts create. They can take over an area where your quest giving NPCs are located, forcing you to clear it. This forces you to involve yourself in the defense of that region. And its one of the few examples where you really are fighting an active enemy in an MMO.

Saph, no offence but your opinion is rather misleading.

The trailer is better than the gameplay

how far did you get the in game? free trial character lvl 3? How can a trailer of an mmo that doesnt show gameplay be better than the gameplay, just looking awesome? That would make every trailer ever made better then any MMO's gameplay.

ah guess you a hater huh lmao, what a clown. hey man, my post was legit though. letting folks know my opinion on that subpar game. is that not the point?

stating that the game is trash really sums things up pretty quickly in my opinion, rather than some long drawn out review about its poor gameplay.

personally, id suggest not buying rift. guess thats out of line to put that out there?

:/

If you are trying to say a video game is trash atleast justify it with some reasons.

You're clearly not getting it, darling.

If you're going to say that the game is trash, at least give a reason for it being trash; go in depth, because if you don't, you're being a clown yourself. It doesn't have to be "some long drawn out review"; as a video games critic for a magazine, I know what I'm talking about when I say that you can conclude a game in an 8 line paragraph, on average.

Also, I'm not a hater, until you give me reasons to be a hater.

Just sayin.

eh, its just the same old game we've been seeing for years rehashed. (AND it requires a subscription fee) i could go on, but i really dont feel its necessary. its just not that great fellas. pretty similar to a crappy korean mmo grind really.

Now, if you had put those reasons next to your initial, short-hand conclusion, then it would have been a respectable opinion :P

But yeah, that's pretty much what I've heard from a lot of other people. I've been advised to wait for Guild Wars 2, even though I didn't need advising on the matter, as I've been looking forward to Guild Wars 2 since it's announcement a few years ago.

A sub fee is common for games such as rift to keep the game running update hardware and software etc. Nothing wrong with a sub fee if you want the creators to keep the game running as smoothly as humanly possible. In World of Warcraft Blizzard had pvp tournaments and what not where the winners got some very nice things, creators of rift might do the same thing.

I have played crappy Korean MMO's where you are forced to grind. And Im around lvl 30 on my current character and have to keep dropping quests because there are more than I would need to clear a zone and gain appropriate levels. I dont think its just my opinion that rift is one of the most polished MMO games ever made. The proof is there for anyone who plays it. Looking at a few minutes of gameplay on youtube does not qualify you as having a valid opinion. If someone told me they had played it and given it a reasonable chance. I would respect that opinion. (like muffincat did)

But when someone posts "its just like a crappy korean MMO grind" I really want to know why they are trying to sound informed and spewing nonsense. Please play the game before you hate on it ... bro.

I paid the $64 up front for a year. So its still about half as expensive as WOW. Not bad for a AAA MMO.

Now see, when someone says this, that normally means that they actually COULDNT go on. It's just them spewing bull**** to prove their point without any facts.

RIFT is trash

how constructive you are

ah guess you a hater huh lmao, what a clown.

^....what? Wait wtf? WHAT!?!?!?

So you say its trash, he responds with a passive aggressive line to underline the fact that your post was borderline flamer spam without making a big fuss about it, and now YOU call HIM a hater?

How many of you does it take to screw in a light bulb buddy? No one knows, a million couldn't figure it out.

If you think RIFT is trash? No problem, that's cool, but for it to hold any water, give some good reasons why, and saying "I could go on but I wont so NIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN!" isn't really gonna prove ANYTHING other than you're an angry hater who needs something to troll about.

If you don't like RIFT? Fine, tell us why, it's a mother****ing forum, treat it as such. Be a troll, a spammer, a flamer, a hater? Right, sow your mouth stuck to your ass, breathe the sweet smell of your own bull****, and piss off.

I have to admit it's quite annoying when 3 of those are in your face. Kinda hard to aim when your screen is full of blinking red dots. And in a dark map like that, you're a pretty easy target for snipers when your head is covered with those
