Dream Theater's new drummer is....

As some of you may have heard, in September, Dream Theater's drummer, Mike Portnoy, quit the band. Here are the auditions for the next drummer:

lol, i picked that picture on purpose, cuz he looked so goofy. But when he answered the phone and they said he got the job he was like AAH! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! AHAHAHAHAHA! WOOOOOOOOOO! He's a great drummer though, and a fantastic fit for the band personality-wise. The other guys were great drummers but it just didn't feel right. Marco's "nom nom nom" shirt was awesome though

I'm glad Portnoy went over to Avenged to fill in, it's a meaningful role for him, being the Rev's favorite drummer and all.

New (possible) replacements sound pretty sweet though..I can't narrow it down to which one I would want in the band however :(

well, he only filled in until the end of 2010, now they have a guy named Arin Ilejay as the touring drummer

i couldve swore Portnoy was coming back seeing as how he's done with Avenged Sevenfold now and they are looking for a new drummer atm

He asked to re-join the band and they denied him. Now he's in a band with Russell Allen (Symphony X vocalist) and some other people, and also did the drums on somebody's solo album

Why? He quit the band because he didn't wanna move forward yet and he didn't wanna just "go through the motions" and not put everything into the next album, and they already were auditioning new drummers when he tried to rejoin, idk i wouldn't want to let him back in. I think they wanted to prove they could actually move on

but mike portnoy is a legend and i dont think they should've disrespected him like that, the only reason he left is because he wanted a little break from the band to go help out Avenged because their drummer had just recently passed on

that's...completely wrong. He left the band because he was burnt out on Dream Theater, he said he was having way more fun with bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Transatlantic, and Dream Theater was getting stale, he wanted to take a couple years off and come back and make a spectacular comeback, but everybody else in the band wanted to make a new album, so Mike quit because he didn't want to hold them back. He left in September, started doing his thing with A7X in like march or something, and said he was only going to tour with the band until the end of 2010. Dream Theater had just finished up a tour before Mike's tour with A7X, and they were gonna spend time with family and stuff (and james was gonna do a solo tour which fell through) until january when they were gonna hit the studio again. He left because he wasn't ready for the studio, he wanted like 5 years off or somethin

ah alright, i knew he wanted to take a break and they didn't but i didn't know that they wanted to make a new album or anything like that, well i still love mike portnoy as a drummer and dream theatre is good, but i dont think theyll be able to replace him

haha idk man. I mean, the new guy obviously isn't Mike Portnoy, but he's a fantastic drummer. He played on some of James Labrie's solo albums
