Just wondering how you guys like to act when you play RPGs.

Personally, I always start of by being the good guy and helping everyone. That way, the next time I complete the game, I can be evil and destroy everything with a good conscience. lol

I don't know how you guys feel? Let me know.

And remember to vote! :)

I often play it like how I would do Which is often the good way.

I normally play my first play through as the classic hero, usually magic caster.

Then as an evil character the second time through.

What brav0 said. I preffer to play my first playthrough where I help everyone and try the whole game from end to end, then the 2nd time around I can be as ruthless as I please XD For example in Oblivion, if you randomly kill people you'll lose alot of cool quests, so my first completion I was kind and helpful, and tried pretty much everything, then I played the next one as an assassin gone mad, killing ANYONE I was capable of killing without getting guards on me...And when I did get guards on me I'd murder a handful of those as well before exiting the city gates and running into the wilderness. I was of course a vampire as well in this whole time, and the leader of the Dark Brotherhood :)

I'll try and help others, but if there's a "I should be getting paid for this..." option, I'll click it ;)

This...

I have trouble doing things for free XD Especially if I'm an assassin. "You want who killed? Oh sure I'll murder this person whom I dont even know, JUST cause you're such a nice guy!"

Atleast the guy who gets murdered should feel that there was atleast SOMETHING he died for.

Usually I just play it based on impulse. Usually good, but sometimes i'll get annoyed by something and be a jerk to everyone, or like in fable 2 i'll be alone with somebody and they insult me and i'm just like lolded. Usually I try to stay on the good side, but don't go out of my way to make sure every decision is the moral one

Pretty much this. My first playthrough, I pick the choices as I would IRL; Generally good, but if the "bad" route seems like the one I'd be more apt to take, I don't have a problem with it.

I always play RPGs and do decision on my own. I play that game and I'm acting like I would in Real-Life. Like in Mass Effect I'm totally against everything racism but I'm nether a Hero nor a Villian. I'm me.

But always I can see how I would decide myself again and again. In every game I ended up as a good one and I did not much evil things...^^

I play as I would do IRL but even sometimes if I would try to be bad I never end up as bad as I wanted. Im to good hearted to kill those poor people.(except in GTA4 I mow them down like cattle)

Im a really nice person in my normal life, so i dont see why i should be a nice person in RPG's, so i basically play RPG's the way i find to be the funniest and most enjoyable for me... which basically consists of the bloody mess perk in Fallout and a .44 Magnum from point blank range into some persons skull:D

I'm usually evil... but at some times I just can't be pure evil. I mean, I do the quest for you buddy, and help you get the money to save your family from starvation, but I'll paint your house with blood once I'm done.

Sometimes I go and save helpless people, and if they offer me all the little they have left as reward, I refuse to take it. But sometimes I just watch them burn or kill them myself. You could say I'm chaotic evil?

(little spoiler, dragon age origins)
When you had to decide whether to save the possessed little boy by freeing him from the demon inside him, I right up decided to slaughter the f'king brat because that sounded like I'd have to go back to the veil... I'm a mage... I friggin hate the veil.

And speaking of Fable 3... befriend the entire town, have sex with everybody, drag them all to the town centre for a magic show and then incinerate everyone with a huge blast >:3 gotta love the freedom in fable ^.^

I normally go with the whole 'I wouldn't do this irl so I should do this in a game' and murder/exploit every that you can. When I play again I tend to go with a good slant but if its a game like TES and I am playing a good character I will still ending up stealing everything from town.

So many of my children sacrificed in fable 2....

I'm definitely a do-gooder. I do as many good things as possible in any game. It'll actually bug me if I don't help everyone I come across that has some sidequest for me to do.

First of all, I help as many people that truly need help that I can. I try not to help those that just rely on others to make it through a game, it's a learning experience and I'm not holding anyones' hands. Second, I will exploit and take full advantage of players that aren't really there to learn or accept the rules and can be down-right rude.. so why not take advantage of them? It's not 100% moral but sometimes people need to be exploited.

All in all, I love to help people in an RPG. I know this isn't exactly an RPG but like in Online Monster Hunter hunts, I do my best to help the lower-levels to get to the higher levels because that's what people did for me. It's hard to get around d-bag gamers and gamers that think they know everything but that's how it is when you include the human element. I'm an advocate for peaceful gaming and eliminating all junk that spews from some gamers mouths but internet gaming isn't rated for a reason. :)

08-18-2011, 08:38 AM
Im in between, I'll help people that I can trust, and exploit those of whom I don't trust. That's how I get around in real-life too. Of course I trust most people, but there are always the ones you are overly suspicious about, so what better thing to do, then ambush them later up the path, before they were to decide the same thing to you.

I like to be super saint the first time through. Then the next time ruthless... Like in Bioshock, I saved the little sisters first through (Just an example). It is interesting to see the things you get/don't get from choosing the other side. And of course if you play some games 2-3 times you get different endings.

Actually I misunderstood this question but the answer is still the same in a sense. I'm extremely helpful to the poor and down-trodden and I use any and every person I deem to be a "low-life" for my own personal gain.. at least if that's the choice.

For some reason though.. I can't seem to get good karma on Fallout. -.- It's not my fault some deserved to be kicked around.. or.. umm nuked..

Draelthalas
08-18-2011, 09:46 PM
ehh it really depends on what game i guess like in infamous where i have the power to just devastate everything if im evil i choose that but in something like Fallout where people tend to like me more and i get more out of it ill go down the good path.

NumberedEyes
08-30-2011, 04:09 PM
i usually make choices based on my morels which is generally the nice way however when i suspect a decision plays a more direct role in the story like killing of a character as an example im more inclined to try and say or do whatever prevents the character dieing or leaving the group. these decisions aren't really present in old school jrpgs though they are more on rails they have a story presented and you aren't forced to make choices you just strap yourself into the seat and enjoy the ride.

I think I prefer to just enjoy the story as if it was a movie let the creators make the choices XD

I ALWAYS be as evil as possible. My brother, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. He says that he likes to play games 'good' because its more of a challenge and you get greater rewards. He is largely correct but, in my humble opinion, being a complete asshole to everyone is its own reward :laugh1:

I always play as a good guy/girl first, normally human with some magical abilities. Then Next time around as another good character, but eventually I will play as the bad guy/girl. Gotta admit, don't like p;aying the baddies that much even though it's only a game.

Perhaps they show a little about our characters?

Most of the time i dont, unless its certain games where certain classes are gender locked, say archer has to be female and warrior has to be male. Then it all depends on the class that appeals to me the most.

Same. A lot of guy gamers say **** like, "I'm not gay, man, why would I want to look at guy's ass all day".

Who the hell looks at their character's ass regularly in the first place? Most of my focus is almost always on what is in front of my character.

I like to help people that are new, new gamers bring life to our communities. Not to mention, stabilizing our gaming economies with fresh money.
When I go bad, is when I felt exploited for game items/favors. I won't bite hard, but it will discourage the whelcher.

/edit

never really understood it either. Focus is always on area surrounding character rather than character itself. Just use whats most effective, irregardless of what the game maker has pegged them.

/edit

Misunderstood intially. I like to play being a little back and forth on being good and bad. I'll usually pick out characters that I like and help them, while completely disregarding feelings/needs of others. Star Ocean 2 was great game to express yourself in this manner.

If my morality would be judged on DnD standards I would place Chaotic Neutral! I do everything that would help my character the most. Sometimes making friends and sometimes assassinating the old lady down the street. (Don't look at me like that she's a rich widow...... with 5 kids)

In reference to the Oblivion dual personalities, I am the same. First time is always the nice guy so as to get the feel of the game and just have a sense of "accomplishment" feeling. Helping others out just makes you all warm and gooey inside, sort of like a combination of donating to the fake Santa in front of WalMart and opening a door for a nice old lady. The second time around though it is a combination of like distracting the Santa in front of WalMart with a thrown fake $20 bill and stealing from the bucket and placing Petroleum Jelly on the handle of the door that the nice old lady is about to open up and then giggle at her from around the corner as she makes the "yucky" face and then gets caught sniffing it. (What do you man it sounds like I have experience with this????) :P

I always play a game more than once or twice. But the first time I'm always acting like a b*tch because in my opinion you learn who the characters are best when they wish to kill you. That may not make any sense, but that's just it. The second time I'm Miss Goody Two Shoes, to see if it makes any differences (and if so how big they are) and after that I try the possibilities in between. Good here, bad there, sometimes this leads to very interesting discoveries.
