Hey, I was wondering if someone could recommend a good game to buy that would have the following characteristics.

1.) Graphics similar to Dragon Age 2 or a Balder's Gate 2 style. (They're different graphics entirely since one is 3D and the other is 2D on a 3D platform, so either type is fine. I just don't want to play something that looks like an Old DOS game with a bad hair day. Don't get me wrong, I love DOS games, I grew up on them, but I just want to play something a bit more modern right now.)

2.) Great character gen (Ex. Dragon Age 2, Neverwinter Nights 2)

3.) A stronghold for your character to rule or live at. (I've always found it more exciting when you take over a place and then you can base everything out of it like shops and stuff, upgrade your castle with repairs, find new people to join your caste/stronghold, etc. There's just something about it that makes the game more fun, especially when you need to defend it.)

Games I've already played that fit this description in some part:

1.) NWN 1 and 2
2.) Dragon Age 1 and 2
3.) Baulder's Gate 1 and 2
4.) Diablo 1 and 2
5.) Planescape Torment

That's what I can think of for now. Most of the ones I've played don't have all 3 points above and I'd like to play a new one that does. Thanks again for the help! =)

I'm not really a Star Wars fan, but thanks for the response. =)

UUUH... tough one...
Diablo, NWN and BG u liked? Then you may like Sacred 1 + 2. (http://www.sacred2.com/landingpage/index_en.html)
If you don't mind the RPG to be technically sh*t, then you can try Fort Zombie. (http://www.fortzombie.com/)
I mean... hmm... there are nice mods and DLCs for Oblivion that give you your own fortress in which you can reside.

Haha... you can try Recettear ^.^ (http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/)

Or if you like Diablo style games you may like Torchlight/FATE - A traitor soul (same game really, Torchlight is a little graphically boosted, content-cut ripoff)

Thanks Havoc! I think I'll go with Oblivion with the mods. (I saw horse mods as well and those look slick. Is there an official place to get mods or should I just Google for them? (I saw the mods I'm referencing on YouTube without any links to the mods.)

Wow.. torchlight cant be a ripoff of FATE because its some of the same people that made Diablo, and they openly admitted they where using the diablo formula because they helped invent it.

Not every Dungeon crawler is a direct ripoff of another. Its a genre and they each do their own things. But yeah Diablo basically made them very popular.

Well I don't know, Torchlight and Fate are basically the same game. They look the same, they gameplay is exactly the same, the music is almost the same, only the levels and enemies are slightly different. Oh and fate has more content.

And I am aware that Torchlights development was led by the writer of fate, but trimming and old game and putting on 2 inches of make-up simply does make it a rip-off in my book. Hell they even fully recycled the anchors voice samples.

I could call it worse but you slightly missed my point by like... dunno, 2 miles maybe.
Both are great and fun games, and if you liked one, you should play the other because it's basically more of the same.

I actually have a game that you might want to try.

Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire.

Look it up, its made in 1998 but the game is friggin awesome. Borderline better than Oblivion in my opinion.

So... do you like Freeplay RPGs?

My recommendations are:
Fallout series - You can get Fallout 3 and New Vegas via retail (Gamestop or Wal-Mart) and plays simularly to Oblivion (They use a simular engine) but give Fallout and Fallout 2 a try (Old Skool Pc Rpgs :) ) The first mentioned ones are available for PC, 360 and PS3 (W/ DLC contnet) and Fallout and Fallout 2 are PC only.

Darkstone - A old game, but a gem nonetheless. The PC Version has Multiplayer Co-Op (Or Versus if you want ;) ) supporting 4 players or 2 players on one PC. There is, however, no matchmaking services for Darkstone, so you'll have to find somone in real life you know that plays or tough it out on your own. There is also a Playstation version, very simular, minus the mulitplayer and voice acting.

Elders Scrolls series - The first two ARE MS - DOS Games, so I'll skip to Morrowind. Decent Role-playing game, free roaming and has hours upon hours of sides quest and such. It's more recent than some of the games I've mentioned, but w/ mods and a good PC, it can end up looking like CRYSIS.

It's a few ideas, thought I might as well ;D
