The Top 10 Heavy Metal Frontmen | News @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/entertainment/the_top_10_heavy_metal_frontmen.html)

so, discuss the list, and give your picks.

All I have to say is they should take axl rose off, cuz he's not top anything. how does showing up late to concerts and storming off stage and stuff constitute being on a greatest frontmen list? Replace him with Devin Townsend. He's not my favorite musician, but he's just so awesome in both SYL and solo stuff.

In the 80's they were metal...metal has evolved since then though

An okay list. I'll post my picks later, I have to think about this one.

I will say one thing though (and probably get hated for it) Ozzy is waaaay overrated in my opinion.

I know that metal has evolved, I just can't believe they would even be considered metal then :|

^ They're heavy/glam metal. Heavy metal by today's standards isn't really 'heavy'. There is so much screaming these days that when someone thinks metal they think of genres like metalcore or death.

Zep, Sabbath, GnR, they're all still metal.

well....what else would they be considered? Ratt, Cinderella, Motley Crue, and all that were considered metal. Deep Purple were considered metal when they first came out. this was the absolute heaviest stuff around at the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYBVVzY_YJE

yet you hear heavier screaming on the radio nowadays.

I am well aware of how metal has changed throughout time, guys...

but Guns N Roses formed in 1985. There was heavier stuff, then, and I don't think they would be "heavy metal." You could argue them for other types of metal, I guess, but... Led Zeppelin was considered heavy metal, and they had their heyday in the '70s. I think Zeppelin fits the category better than Guns and Roses do, and there were other emerging bands that were a lot heavier than GnR.

Guns n Roses weren't death or thrash metal, but the first album was somewhat in the same vein as like ratt and stuff. There was heavier stuff before them (venom formed in 1979, mercyful fate in '81, possessed and death in '83, and celtic frost and mayhem in '84) but that doesn't mean they weren't a metal band. People considered Scorpions, Motley Crue, and Poison to be metal bands as well. I'd say they're on the lighter side of metal. Doesn't really matter which subgenre though...does it? Heavy Metal is kind of an umbrella term these days

Um, no, actually, by my logic, that's not true... considering I said that bands formed BEFORE Guns N Roses are heavy metal... o_O

And I am not saying they're not metal. Did you read my post at all? I said you could argue that they were another genre of metal, but the article you linked specifically says "Top 10 Heavy Metal frontmen" and I just don't think they count. *shrug*

edit: this post won't make sense to most of you because he edited his post!

also, there was a misunderstanding of what I actually meant and that is all cleared up now

my first post wasn't supposed to be taken literally; I was more of making a joke about the fact that he got named as one of the Top Ten Heavy Metal Frontmen when there are a million other people better suited

yea...I thought you were saying they weren't metal and you kept saying that there were heavier bands than them and so i was like "...uhh....just cuz there are heavier bands doesn't mean they're not metal" but you meant they're not heavy metal.

and I edited my post way before she posted that one lol

anyways, I agree with Alice Cooper and Dio, don't agree with axl rose.

Yeah, sorry I was unclear :P

I just don't think Axl Rose deserves to be on a list like that XD

but yeah Alice and Dio I'd also agree with for sure.

I agree with most of it.. Dave Mustaine should be on there though. He's an amazing frontman, usually has great showmanship, and has influenced quite a lot in the metal scene (at least, some of the earlier heavy/thrash bands.)

I agree with most of list.

Guns N' Roses was more rock / hard rock in my oppinon.

Also someone said they where glam rock? Where is the logic in that?

Im just wondering because back when glam rock sold like wheat bread,
Guns N' Roses held on to more of a traditional rock style. :/

Im gonna refrain from discussing Slipknot because of my inability to stay objective on the matter since i dont like them. :P

I mentioned glam metal but I didn't say they were strictly glam.. A lot of people agree some of their ealy stuff is glam influenced. They're not on the same level as Poison or Crue, but I'd say the influence was there (musically and in appearance, to an extent).

Anyway, genre wars are lame. I only care about two categories: **** I like, and **** I don't like.
