Sooo I had this crazy idea and ran it by Synge who though it was sweet too! We're looking for other people on the forum who play an instrument, that would like to do an online collaboration with us. We've yet to decide if we're doing a cover, or if we should try and come up with a song.
Any instrument is fine, just you need to have access to something that can record you with sound. (webcam, digital camera, camcorder, w/e) So violinists, bassists, drummer, xylophone masters, come play music :)
Editing constantly for our musicians!!
Diligence - Oboe, Bass, Guitar, Native American Flute
Epsilon - Bass (or guitar? Pick one! :P )
Muffincat - Flute
ROFLBRYCE - Guitar (My girlfriend might also play piano/keyboard, I'll try and get her on the site here)
Samus - Drums
Synge - Guitar

I am a semi-professional mixing/recording/mastering engineer, have a healthy bank of virtual instruments, play the oboe, the bass, some guitar (not much), and a native american flute.
Can we start a roster in your first post that lists who can play what so we get a clear picture as people respond to this thread?

Hey new best bud ;) Just put in the roster thing. I had no clue you were into all that stuff :) It'll be nice having someone who knows everything to do aboard if you're in xD I've got nothing planned past us playing instruments.

We gotta decide on a genre to play, so I (or anyone else, of course) can throw down some various riffs we can choose from and go from there. Or song suggestions if we go with a cover. Getting started is always the hardest part.
The way I've done this in the past, you can write your own stuff to contribute or cover sections of another bands' stuff (if it fits) and use that, so it's both original and covered music.. Ya know, whatever, as long as you perform it (or use MIDI, that's fine too) you can use it.
One thing though... Bryce and I are using the lowest of all means of recording.. So our stuff probably won't mix well with Dili's arsenal :P ..Speaking of Dili.. You have any suggestions on decent recording gear (that won't completely break me, I'd prefer not to go over 200 bucks)?

And also figure out a key to play in :P can't have a song made up with 1 person in Bm and everyone else in C lol.
I /may/ be able to get better recording stuff. My gf's dad played music professionally for a long time and has a lot of equipment still...I'll try and dig around and see what he's got, and see if he'll teach me how to record with it if he's got any gear for it. If not, digital camera it is xD

I can join in too, i guess on bass since there's already 2 people on guitars.
and with this many instruments, i'm sure it'll be some kind of crazy prog instrumental or something with a bunch of solos, like a flute solo and guitar solos etc

@ Bryce: Actually I always go genre first, tuning after :P If we go, say, melodic metal, I'd be apt to play Drop C. Rock probably Drop D or standard, etc etc.. Of course genres aren't limited and can be played in whatever but I have preferences :P
Edit: @ Eps: You can come in on guitar. Not everyone has to be playing at the same time, we can split up sections and who plays which.

So let's get some genres down on the table guys:
I'm opting more towards classic rock (as it sounds awesome, not overly complicated, and very flexible if we wanna make it heavier, or if we want to go more country (probably not lol but it's out there) ) but I'll play pretty much anything you guys are up for! I'm just not too sure on everyone's musical preferences.
Metal, nu-metal, rock and punk (any genre besides ska-related) are my favorite genres, but like I said, I'll play anything.

haha I'll only burst in if you guys decide you might want a flute :P
besides I would have to have dili record me and he'd probably critique my playing the whole time :P

Flute sounds nice with like everything :D haha. Something about all those instruments just combined with some heavy guitar and bass, upbeat drums...just sounds cool along them all :P Flutes, strings, brass...yeaaahhh.

I'm thinkin someone just throws something out there: a guitar lick, some lyrics, a hummed tune.. until we find something to go off of. This is how we did it on the music forum I was tellin Bryce about. It was chaotic but a lot of fun :P

Sooo we all go on mumble and just jam or what haha. I'm not very creative with licks, and can't really come with a solo on the spot...but I can chord like a sunuvabeech. Sooo I can do rhythm guitar I guess :P

I'll throw something together, and intro, record it and post it. Give me a half hour :P
If no one likes it, tell me. Won't hurt my feelings or anything :P It's all part of the process..
It's coming out metalcore-ish. I'll record what I have in a few minutes. Not gonna waste time tabbing it out cause I'm not sure we'll even use it.

i dont think we should really pidgeonhole it into a certain genre, heck we could have a song that's mellow at the beginning and gets punky then an instrumental interlude turns into metal and after a nice little keyboard solo goes into an acoustic verse/outro or something. just keep everything in the same key and time signature and it should be fine.

it should be 20 minutes long

I have a drum kit.....and I am learning drums, all I can do it keep a basic beat, no drum solos or anything. But if you want a time keeper, I can put my metronome on and do that for ya.
I don't have a mic kit either, so sound quality wouldn't be the best. But I'm here if you want me

Yeah, I like this idea. But we could also still do a cover, which would be a lot easier.
Also, time signatures don't really matter here.

well i mean, just have it 4/4 the whole time. if it was like me and you and like someone else i'm sure we could handle some insane time signatures or something, i'm just saying make sure it's a nice simple tempo so that it's easy to put everything in place
we should do firth of fifth by genesis :D muffin can do the flute solo
