scary game moments

Hello, Im wanting to know your scary game moments, things in games that made you jump or just a atmosphere that truly started crawling under your skin.

It doesnt have to be a necesarily scary game, all I need is one moment.

I start with something I met while playing Singularity.

I swam in some tunnels and I hurried to get out. The tunnels where small and dark, I swam in to a turn and suddenly it was there. A big ugly monster face covered the screen and I pratically jumped. It took several seconds before I realised it was dead.
After that I was swetty and my heart beat fast and got almost paranoid for all suspected parts in the rest of the game.

First time i encountered the mutated apes or whatever on Far Cry 1, met one in a staircase. (I had the high ground) and i was about to pull up a shotgun when he suddely leaped right onto my screen.

I'm trying not to confuse scary with startling like what everybody here does.
I think it was the first time I played the first F.E.A.R Demo. The demo level had an amazing shadow play with Alma... when you start walking down a corridor and get your first transmission "Unknown Origin..." then a vent to your side shuts close and you hear child laughter, then you continue and see a child run around the corner, but there is nothing there, and next when you pick up the health power up on a barrel a shadow runs across the wall in front of you but when you turn around there is nothing there. Accompanied by very very subtle whispering and children laughter and the loud hammering of your heartbeat... THAT is some scary **** right there. Atmosphere thick as cement.

In SH2, there's this one monster that's really weird, and you're on top of the hospital and it appears and corners you and goes to attack you and you fall off the hospital into this fenced-in area, and then the siren sounds and it switches over to "hell" so the place is super freakin weird, and the entire time I was dreading opening up a door or something and having that monster there. I literally would go up to a door, press the button and hope and pray that the door is locked, and then whenever the loading screen comes up and i go inside the room I was like "please let the room be empty" oh my god. The initial attack really caught me off guard, and then it switches to hell which made it impossible for me to recover from the shock of the first event, cuz a lot of times in a game or movie, there'll be some space between scary events for you to catch your breath again. nope, this game takes your breath away then makes you hold it through the entire "level"

Alright, so i'm playing Zombie Verrukt on WaW zombies and its an insane asylum. So i'm just playin it solo before i go online with it and then i hear human screams and i have a surround sound system and it was loud and at night, so i look outside and no one was out there. I was thinkin "Am i goin insane, should i be in there, too?" Then i go online and me and 3 other ppl had mics with me which was nice then we were about to move a barricade and i was like humblumblumblum then a different scream came on and i ask them if they heard it and they said no so i didnt go back to tht map for 2 months!!

I just come upon another "aaahhh" moment in dead space. I just came out from an elevator and went out. It was empty but suddenly a freaking monster just run around the corner and starts too attack me. I really freaked out and wasted tons of ammo, I was like ohhh ****, come on, die die die die.

Playing Dead Space for the first time, alone, in the dark, volume all the way up. If you want a classic horror gameplay experience, get a big tv hooked to a PS2 and play Fatal Frame with a woman. Best. Move. Ever.

Same here. Sure there are demons, but they don't frighten me unlike F.E.A.R. 2 tht game is scary but not **** ur pants scary.

The darkness was spawned from Chuck Norris' beard in the beginning of time to balance out space and time. Without Chuck Norris we would never have stars in the sky, squirrels in the trees, or water on our planet. PRAISE HIM!

the only real scary game moments I have is when I get real far into a game (without auto-save) and my game threatens to crash! So when that happens, I go into the menu to save it right away, before I ragequit.

Can't name them off the top of my head, as I can't remember which ones had auto-save and which one's didn't :)

i were playing Amnesia Dark Descent (great game)
and i were running around like "i´ve been here before" so when i were about to start running for the door... the monster smashed it in and screamed... got me screaming out loud and pressing escape....

alright, this one moment in 'Resident Evil: Code Veronica' a pop up moment of a zombie bashing through the door. my heart was racing yo... my sister kept making fun of me after that one time.

I think Resident Evil zombies are way scarier than all of this fast-moving **** you see in L4D and stuff, as there's more of an atmosphere and stuff about it... really gets you going!

yup, L4D zombies isnt scary at all, not that they run but that they are so easy to kill, hech I owned them with a frying pan.

I just miss the suspense and atmosphere that games like Resident Evil create, especially in that mansion, in Resident Evil 2, was it? The music, the fear of not wanting to go around the next corner, or to open a door and go into that room... it was so thrilling!

The scariest game moment ever?....Boy thats a hard one, think I got one that stands out though!!

So a few years back I got my hands on Condemned for PS2. A friend got it, and he came to my house, slapped it in my face and said these exact words to me:

(Please dont think I'm making this up, most people do when I tell them this story, but I couldn't be more serious!)

"I will give you 100 danish kroner(About 20 bucks)If you'll play this game, and tell me how it ends, cause I'm too friggin scared to do it myself(We were maybe like 17? LOL!)

So I say alright sure, and I decide to do so after I finish my homework that same night.

...I can only say that I had second thoughts on the deal when I got to the Press to start menu...

The game is pretty much about a group of people locked inside a huge building, and have to survive a flood of wierd ass man like monsters that I think crawl up from the sewers or something, I didn't really have the mental capacity to understand the concept, too damned close to ****ting and pissing myself at the same time.

So here's the moment:

At some point in the game you have to go to the really low levels of the building to retrieve SOMETHING I can't remember, and all I was armed with was an iron pipe and a really crappy flickering flashlight. So I get downthere feeling that if I made it this far without too many heart jumps and neck hair crawling freakiness, maybe I'm in the safe zone!

I couldn't be more wrong....

I get into the lower levels which have pipes and **** all over the place, and sudden noises like steam going off. Well I kept seeing shadows in my flashlight, but there was NEVER anything there, the shape was almost spider like? But everytime I pointed at it the shadow vanished.

So I get to a really narrow staircase like thing which I guess is good cause it leads up, but all of a sudden I hear foot padder, like naked feet on stone, and it comes from up ahead. I mean not just one, it sounds like a million feet! All of a sudden this wierdass man looking thing which crawls on all 4s like a spider(arms and legs out to the sides with a pale snarling face looking at you)comes rushing towards me on the cieling. I freak, and without even pressing pause or anything I flip off my TV, screaming like a child!

I eventually completed the game, told him how it ends, and got my 100 kroner, but I have never been happier to see a game leave my machine. I later heard Condemned 2 came out? I got the chills and forgot about the game completely until now.

I'm sitting in a dark corner of my house at 11:30pm...I think I'm gonna go watch TV in the brighter part now...............................

Mine was back when I played Half-Life (the first) and you know there is a part when you have to go through some slippery path and under this metal "pier" there is water everywhere. So I slipped and fell into the water not expecting anything and I saw the ladder quite far away from me. And then... MOARGHWROAMRRR... Som freakin huge mutant-shark-fish-something started to rip me to shreds :O I was shocked for a moment :D

I reckon resident evil 5, literally as you start playing and hardly know the controls, minimal ammo, and you gotta just run around with zombies chasing you, let alone that massive guy who wears a sack on his head, swinging some big as axe around. Panic mode :D

How bout in Resident Evil 4, running low on ammo on the island, running through a lonely hallway and when you turn the corner left, BAM! Regenerator grabs you and chomps on your neck. You struggle to get loose you pump your 3 magnum bullets into it and then your just fast food to this monster.

Or even the first one where the camera is fixed which makes you think 'what's around the corner' then you walk round, the shutters open, you hear glass smash and you see a licker jump through and ogle at you with it's impressive Tongue and you think 'omfg, what the **** is that ******* thing! And then you panic and shoot all around you not hitting it, and then attempt to flee which turns out to be an epic fail with the primitive controls back then and just run into it. Memories :)

I just encountered a jumpy moments.

I played STALKER clear sky and it was night. I sat out in the wild close to a small fireplace. It was completly dark around us so I was looked around all the time. I suddenly heard a noice and got up and took up my weapon and light. The flashlight only lit up a small area so I didnt see anything, I was going to sit down again when I saw a few white dots in the darkness.
Suddenly out of the dark two massivly big boars just run out and go ape**** on my camp. I only had a lousy smg with few clips, so I just ran away the fastest I could and hoped I would make it to safety.

My heart truly pumped after that experience, lol stalker makes me often feel that way.Either bloodsuckers, psuedogiants or just rats.

The most scariest game moment would have to be the part in Resident Evil 2 where you walk down a narrow corridor/hall in the RPD Police Station, the windows have wood planks on them and zombies arms pop out and grab you. It still scared me, even with the TV on mute. The part where you walk near the window and the Licker crawls past the window from the outside scared me too. I recently started playing the game again, and completely forgot about the scary part, so I got scared again when it happened.
