View Full Version : What popular Mainstream Fantasy is best?
What do you think? Personally I preffer Star Trek: The Next Generation over them all, but that's just me!
So, which one of the above mainstream fantasy franchises do you think is best? Please vote and comment why you think the way you do :) There's always a reason for an opinion, mind you!

Star Wars, easily. Although a futuristic taco show would rule hard

Lord of the rings is my absolute favourite franchise. The films are just full of integrity and passion. I mean the burden of one person brings the closest of people together via not the easiest route, and how far they would actually go to help, especially in times wher they were separated in minute groups, still fighting and fulfilling their parts in the hope of completing a task that they were unsure was still being undertaken. From a small, unknown character by chance finding an item that would risk the lives of every living thing in middle earth, brings together heroes, armies and entire nations because they believed. As quite an empathic person, I put myself in Frodos shoes (or feet!) and how scared and exhausted he must be, but then again how amazing to know the people he has standing by him, the people they meet during their journey offering advice and help in the most painful of times. The trickery of one, to the death of another. Such a burden to bear, and the epic intensity of the constantly growing enemy to the dwindling hope of the fellowship. Hope still remains. An emotional voyage that still inspires me to this day through film, book and game.
Love the mouth of sauron! Shame he didn't last long :)

I think I choose lords of the ring, both the films and the books(and some games) are wonderfull.
I personally thinks its wrong to have all in one poll, Sci fi and fantasy is two totally different things, there is a BIG difference between, say star trek and lords of the ring. (To bad I couldnt vote for two things for the other would be Stargate)
Or atleast that is what I think.

Yeah this is pretty much biased towards sci-fi :P
And I agree with paec about sci-fi and fantasy being completely different and hard to compare like this... but I picked Lord of the Rings. Grew up reading all the books, and the movies were done really well.
The others are great, but LotR is so epic... the love and care and time that went into the books/movies is just incredible (not that the others don't have similar dedication, but still).

I am a Stargate fan myself. :)
Mainly a SG-1 and Atlantis fan, not so much SG: Universe. :/

Atlantis is my favourite, even if I had hoped that they would make a 3rd Universe season, just my call but they started to get going in the second season and I hate cliffhanger ends :(

LotR by far. I love everything about the series. I really need to give Star Wars another chance though, I tired watching one of them (don't remember which) when I was younger but found it incredibly boring.
