Hi guys!

I was wondering if you have any good advice for me to get Xbox live started? I kinda have the same scenario as StantheMan with his PS3. I have a computer nearby which is on a wired connection, and my modem is right next to the PC screen.

Now in the other end of my living room, is the TV and my Xbox(My livingroom is L shaped, my pc in the top of the L, and my TV in the bottom and around the corner)

I was wondering if any of you have any easy ways and just good tips as to how I get my Xbox hooked up? I thought maybe the Xbox 360 had a built in wireless router, but I get no turn on options anywhere, and when I try to do establish connection, it says failed immediately.

So, any help would be great. Thanks! :D

I think the wireless adapter for the 360 is an addon, not sure though. Why not use a big ethernet cable?

A long ethernet cable or the wireless adapter. Only the new 360s have a built-in wireless.

That wasn't me that had the connection problem, just a post I commented on, no big. Id say get the adapter, a long ethernet cable would probably be in the way, depending on the footage of your living room.

Well, I have to get it going first guys XD But go ahead and PM me your live profiles.

Either way, I am betting on the wireless adapter, BUT I think my Xbox might be too old. Like HOW new is the wireless feature? Cause I don't know if its like supposed to be switched on or if its on by default or what.

Or is a wireless adapter something I should buy? Will any do, or is it one I should get that only works with Xboxes? Let me know.

If you've got anything but the newest version, you need to buy the wireless adapter Microsoft has for it. The newer ones have it built in.

You can't have an xbox 360 too old to use the wireless adapter. :)

Anyway, here it is Xbox 360 Wireless adapter, USB powered. (http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews/xbox-360/39/Xbox-360-Wireless-Networking-Adapter/p1/)

Here in norway its about 95$ for one. :)

Yup, not only do you have to pay for online but you have to dish out another ~$100 to even have the ability to connect (wirelessly, anyway). Pfft, even Wii has built in wifi.

Well I already have a broadband connection(that took FOREVER to get by the way), so you're saying that I'll be paying MORE per month for hooking it up?

^ If that's directed at me: I was referring to Xbox Live, which is $60 a year for Gold.

Is Xbox Live Gold required to play say Halo Reach etc. online?

Yup, required to play every game online.

Yeah $60 a year isn't really that bad....But there's NO WAY my wife will accept it if it means more expenses AT ANY RATE >.< Gotta wait till our economy is balanced, yo.

You'll be waiting for a long time... You could also check ebay or walmart for one, it may be cheaper.

best advice is go to network settings on dash, note the console ip, go to your router settings and enter that ip into the dmz.

Yo man,

Someone else said it but only the new xbox has built in wireless.
So you're going to need to either get a wireless adapter or run a long ethernet cable around the room.

Either way you have to get a router because you can only hook up one ethernet cable to the modem, unless you want to be switching out wires everytime you want to switch what your using with the internet.

I suggest hitting walmart and getting a wirless router for about 40 bucks and putting a password on it so no one steals your internet. This way you're not lagging, that's not a fun time.

Then at either walmart or gamestop, pick up a wirless adapter for your xbox for about 50 bucks. You could probably find it cheaper online but you'll have to wait about a week for it to come in the mail. Your choice on that part. But make sure you put a password on if you go wireless or your gaming experience will just be ruined and try not to go on the computer and laptop at the same time, cause you'll just be lagging your own connection.

Your internet might be able to handle it but chances are it'll slow you down.

Hope this helps.

Peace
