Hi,
I'm a total newbie, and - I think - rather old (56), male and dutch.
The main reason I'm visiting your forum is to get some advice on hardware.
I'm trying to help my son (who is the real gamer here) to upgrade his PC, although is budget is very limited.
Well, i'll post my questions later on; I hope in to right part of this forum.
Bye

What parts of the PC are you looking to upgrade and what does it already have?

Wel Diligence109,
I think most parts need to be upgraded.
I think I need a new motherboard, processor, memory, and graphics card.
Besides that: the machine is Dell, which has a BTX-formatfactor. So ATX or mini-ATX-boards will not fit probably, so I think I need a new case too.
And perhaps a new PSU. The Dell has 305 Watts, but perhaps that is not enough. I don't know how to calculate the amount of Watts a PSU must have.
At this moment the Dell Dimension E520 has a Viiv Core 2 duo processor E4300 (1,80 Ghz, 800 Mhz, 2Mb). It has 2Gb DDR2 533 Mhz memory, and a MSI R4350-D512H
(Radeon HD4350) on 600MHz with 512MB DDR2.

Hmm, so you're essentially looking to build an entirely new PC :P Which is a good move cause (based on your other thread) there is little you'd want to salvage from your current computer, except maybe optical drive and/or hard drive.
If you need help putting something together, make thread and list your budget and such and we'd help you attain the best bang for your buck. :)
P.S.
You're never too old!

Good idea Synge.
In what part of the forum I should make the suggested thread about my wishes and budget?
