Anyway, I got McAfee, it was great... until now. stupid thing keeps turning off real time scanning & I have no clue what's happenin with the program. (legally bought the cd)
I used 'SuperAntispyware' (legally bought)
and I used 'Malwarebytes' (free version)
these 2 programs are good, they removed like 3 of each, malware/spyware

but what I don't get is that the service -- McAfee, keeps turning off. I checked the support on their website, they seemed to fix the problem with this one setup file - one I download off their site. I did that, and the scanning is back to normal. only for 2 days. & then it keeps shutting down, red exclamation points, unprotected, etc.
so now, I have no choice but to re-install this program again....
if I get the problem again, I might end up reformatting....
if I STILL get the problem again, I'm going to switch to another anti-virus software.

I need some advice yo... what should I do? Switch to another anti-virus? Is Norton Good? Kapersky? AVG? <--(tried this one, it is stubborn not to work on this old 2005 computer) or what about ESET NOD32? I'm not even downloading anything & stuff like this happens.

Norton is good i use the suite and i like it alot. Have you contacted McAfee and told them whats going on and that you tried their fix and it didnt work? If that dont work I would recommend Comodo Internet Security Premium as a replacement AV.

I hate McAfee. I had a bad experience with them a couple years ago. If they are a s bad now as they were then, I feel your pain.

Give Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials a try. I switched to MSE after AVG started to go downhill and have no complaints.

Maybe reinstall?

And MS Security Essentials is good as Synge pointed out. I use that on my win7. I don't even have anything on my XP.

No anti-virus software is full proof. Malware will always find a way in if you're not careful.

I recommend getting Norton Internet Security, it lasts for about a year. And it works the best, in my opinion it is the best.

alright, I got that new Norton, installed it yesterday, it works great, I didnt' even know it was scanning. what sucks is that... I didn't get the complete, I just got the anti-virus.
hope it doesn't interfere with 'SuperAnti-Spyware' or 'malwarebytes' <-- I'm thinking about buying this one, the registered version.

Nice bro, now your PC is Protected for about an entire year (365 days). So you dont have to worry until the subscription runs out, once it runs out, get the new Nortan. Simple, hahaa :laugh1:

I use Avast! anti-virus and have yet to have a problem. I use the free version, but there are more secure versions you can pay for. It's an awesome program to have.

well the question remains....

will 'SuperAntiSpyware' interfere with this anti-virus program?

cause I use that & malwarebytes.... so...do you think so?

No, I dont think it will.
It will just do its own thing, and protect your PC.
Its stopped about 5 Trojan Horse's from getting into my computer so far, it was so worth the money. But yeah, dont worry, It wont interfere with your other Anti-Virus programs you have installed, im almost certain of it :)

Don't use any Anti Virus.

Just be smart with what you're doing and you will be fine. Also when downloading files (depending on size) :

Jottis malware scan (http://virusscan.jotti.org/en)

Of course this is just how I do it...I've been safe but eh.

I used to use ESET NOD32 for a little bit. and it worked nicely.

Not having an AV is too risky in this day and age you dont know what is safe and what has infected files. the best way to find some good AV is to do some research and experiment with what you like.

I'm sorry Aaron.mw, I can't listen to you. how are you able to be secure? man... well, some security freeware is worth having, but there must be an official one to help you stay safe...
but jokersvirus, you forgot to mention somethin like hackers using links... thats the modern way now I think. keyloggers or somethin like that? not sure..

You could be the most careful user in the world, but it doesn't guarantee that you won't get undetected nasties on your system.

if you have a good antivirus it will be able to pick up threats some programs like threatfire, free edition, have a behavior analysis in it and if it acts funny it will stop it and alert you

I faced the same problem with mcafee after getting one of those fake antivirus viruses. after malware bytes i did a system restore to about 1 week prior to le infection and it was fine. I suggest you try it :D

Go Norton 360 bro. Flawless high quality protection 24/7. Have had it since it came out, not even 1 bug, not 1 program messing up cause of it. Easy to use too!

I'd say go with Norton 360.

As I told Kenoi in private chat if you have comcast internet and cable, im not sure if you need both, you have access to Norton Security Suite and its really cool, plus you get access to some other free norton products on their website

if you need a good firewall beyond windows firewall, comodo is my recommendation
