So my mother in law is pretty upset, and I can understand why.

She is a painter who sells her artwork primarily online(like me!), but she decided to try Ebay since Etsy and Amazon are unavailable to her.

Earlier today they sent her an email stating that her account had been partially locked to limit her activity on their website. They considered her as involved in another store that had been comitting "Questionable acts" on their website. She wanted to know what proof they had of this, they refused to show anything at all. They then went on to demand that she faxed them copies of her drivers license, and her passport, as well as a piece of paper stating that she is the owner of the account that her Ebay account is linked with.

She refuses to give them so much personal information, and says she'll close her account.

Apparently she can't close her account. She has tried, and it will not allow her to remove for example her credit card information, her address, and other personal info.

Who the **** do these money hungry pieces of **** think they are?

Only a matter of time before they're the victim of a righteous billion dollar lawsuit for this bullcrap.

I doubt anyone can sue them. They are much smarter than that. When you sign up for an account, you agree to a whole bunch of stuff including account limitations for any reason.

Ebay is a big company with a crapload of lawyers, not much you can do from what they're doing to your mother in law's account.

She should also make sure that it's truly eBay that's contacting her like that, she should call the number found on the eBay site and confirm there. And then the only thing I can suggest is to cooperate with them. She may not want to give out personal info, but she doesn't have much to worry about with eBay (from my own experience). Either way, she doesn't have too many options.

I've had my paypal account get locked once (I think someone else tried to hack into it), I had to send them proof of my ID and wait like 2 weeks to get it fixed. After that, my account has been fine. Haven't had any issues with my ebay account though, I've been using it for years.
