So uh, back then when I was in High school, I used to know some Java... but then... now I kinda forgot it all...
I tried to approach some programming on this computer... & failed at it today.

when I thought of this question! :D

what computer languages can I learn? (useful ones I mean)
the purposes: game programming/website editing. (I know they're 2 different things, but I feel like learning somethin new.) [I'm also trying out Ruby programming, is it a good one? any other good ones?]

please no flaming, no bad comments. keep it clean everyone. (mods help me out) I'm just asking an innocent question. hope you can help! thanks in advance.

VBS.
HTML,
CSS
C+
C++
Lua
Those are all the languages I work with.
They should sound familiar, you can make some cool things with vbs.
Also python is a good one.
Most of these things I use for my game engine, some of them, like vbs you can make your own programs.

If you wanna do website stuff, then learn html/css. It's not really programming, more of a markup language. Then once you have a handle on this, you can go for Java and php which is actually scripting.

C++ is also a good beginner programming thing. It can lead you to learning a lot of other programs more easily.

The simplest way to say it is for applications, videogames, clients, most games you play, like minecraft, use C++, atleast I believe.. I think MC is java.. :P

well, I just wanna get into game programming & website building. I've talked to my friends about it...
now I actually remember, I did learn PHP in high school, but .. man... trying to get back into it now (once again) its TOUGH. its real complex now.. and to me, its not for a novice, you actually need some knowledge huh?

Web you are probably going to see, php, html, and css.
For gaming, it really is as wide as it gets, look for a wiki on game engines, you can find one with an easy enough language there, I suggest Lua, very easy to get comfy with.

And as for knowledge... I kinda started because it was what my friends did, just a little incentive helps.
