Original Story:http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3723107/Lad-of-20-is-killed-by-blood-clot-caused-by-playing-his-Xbox-for-up-to-12-hours-at-a-time.html

By the way the sun is a joke... I cannot believe they blame a console for the death instead of the 20 year old. No normal person who plays does not get up in 12 hours and stretch or pee, maybe even eat or smoke if that is your thing. Anyhow this is the first time I have heard anything like this happening and I think the poor kid had some issues before.

Gamer Euphoria's Take on the article: Death By Xbox: The Sun's At It Again | Gamer Euphoria (http://gamereuphoria.com/2011/07/30/all-posts/death-by-xbox-the-suns-at-it-again)

What is your thought?

The Sun is a joke in general. No-one buys The Sun in Merseyside because of the story they did on the Hillsborough disaster.

cant blame the console, nor microsoft. You have only to blame the parents and the dude who died. You do something like that for 12 hours a day yeah thats your own damn fault sir.

One of the causes is immobility and dehydration, which fits into this case.. He could have gotten this from traveling too much, or reading books for too long rather than playing video games. The event itself is bad and I hope the family does alright, but blaming it on the console is stupid. Microsoft has no control over how much time anyone plays, and they issue warnings in the console manual that say don't play for extended periods of time, take a 15 minute break every half hour.

I know that if you play Microsoft's Kinect games some of them tell you to take a break during gameplay... But no, the sun's stance is it is Microsoft's/video games fault.
I only came across the article after someone posted a question about what the chances are of this happening.

Lulzsec should destroy their website again.

Sucks for the dude, but it's his own fault for not taking care of himself. Even in his photo he looks like he hasn't had a decent night's sleep in weeks.

I think the longest I've ever gamed was 13 or 14 hours, but that was the only time I ever did that. I think I'd die too if I did it on a regular basis. I'd have to really, REALLY enjoy a game that much again in order to want to play for that long without taking a break.

Parents were unaware of this risk and I don't blame his death on them. If my son sat playing for half a day, I would smack him not because I think he'd die but because it sucks if you don't do anything with your life.
We all are gamers here but I think we all have real lives as well, just take a look at the threads, ppl travelling and playing in bands etc.
This guy was just way so dumb... It's a normal reaction of the body that after 1-2 hours you start to feel uncomfortable. This is when you get up and stretch or have a shower or whatsoever. And even if you get back to playing, after such a marathon you will feel some strange tiredness. And you decide not to do this again for a while...
And not to mention that the guy had no metabolism.

This pretty much speaks truth and concludes it. It was the lad's fault for being a dumbass! It sounds like the only reason why he got up off his lard arse was to go to the Jobcentre, because he couldn't be bothered trying to find a job himself.

That's a really strange way to die, I'd blame him or the parents for this. Microsoft isn't responsible for their customers well-being.

I blame the kid, cause he really acted like a kid. If he lived by himself you can't really blame the parents, if he lives with his parents then they have some responsibility of checking up on the kid and seeing what he is up to, but they are not obligated. It's sad but stupid. My Dad told me about it ... like I was going to do something like that, yeah I gamed for hours, from dusk til dawn, but **** at least I take a .... and get some grub and stretch and bother Linux ... I do agree he may have had other issues.

Gaming has been a scapegoat for real problems for years. Parents don't like to take responsibility for the adults their children turn out to be anymore. All things in moderation people....come on.

That is an awfully sad story, and I cannot help but to feel sorry for the guy. However, in my opinion, it was his fault. He had a serious health problem and a strong addiction to gaming. He needed to be more active than playing Xbox all day. No game is worth one's life.

His fault, there is a warning on all games that they can kill you buy causing seizures or things like this.

Longest I have ever played a game is a 12 or 13 hour LAN party. And we were moving around a lot during the party. I can't imagine sitting and playing a videogame for 12 straight hours and my parents would never have allowed it

this is a direct quote from the article:

Chris collapsed seconds after telling a friend how he had been experiencing a strange sensation in his chest.

The pair were chatting outside a JobCentre where Chris had an interview.

It is obvious that this article is nothing more than dishonest reporting. The kid was out of the house with a friend when the blood clot killed him. It "can" be caused by sitting in an awkward position for a long period of time, but truth be told this condition has a lot more to do with what you eat than anything else. And its also a lifestyle choice that goes far beyond simply playing an Xbox.

Lets consider that this type of things gets peoples attention and blaming it on an xbox gets people to read the article. Now count the number of times you have read about a deep veined thrombosis killing a video game addict. Surprisingly few? Thats because there really is no cause and effect here. Lots of people dont exercise as much as they should, the difference is that those people that die from a medical complication usually dont have parents who want to cash in on the attention in such a shameful way.

David, the overweight father of Chris, the overweight game player who died, is raising awareness about the correlation between video games and DVT. Good job, if the goal was for you and your overweight wife (who really took her time to look nice for that shameless photo) would rather associate video game playing with their sons obesity rather than how their life long eating habits affected the child they raised. And Im not saying sitting around playing video games wasnt a factor, it just is not the smoking gun they make it out to be for their brief moment in the lime light.

People are so stupid.

I play an unhealthy amount of video games, 12 hours is nothing. But I also am a shallow person who wont settle for a fatty, or expect others to. That means in order to keep dating I go to the gym and watch what I eat. So even if you stopped playing games, lots of people will just sit in front of a TV or eat out of boredom. Lets start admitting that its not OK to be grossly overweight.

You hear a lot about these kind of deaths like this, I don't see how you can sit in the same position for over 12 hours though. I'm always stretching my legs out or getting up and walking around in between games. I've played games for over 24 hour sittings, game after game. Maybe stopping for 30 minutes to eat or something and walking around or at least standing up in between games just to stretch because you do get stiff.I Never had any problems though, as Bob said, I think it's more about your health. If you don't get any exercise eat junk good all day. Then yes, you're going to be in rough shape.
