I have some questions about crossfire/SLI.

- Is it any good?, or buy just one (better) card?
- Do the cards have to be exactly the same (brand/model, etc)?
- Do I need extra cables??
- Is there a decent crossfire-mobo for around 100 euro's/140 USD?

Thanks for the advice

1: CF/SLI is meant to increase graphics performance, so yup, it's good. But choosing whether or not to go that route depends. Like, exactly which card/s would you plan to crossfire?

2: Yes and no. Brand doesn't matter: Asus, XFX, Sapphire, any will work but they need to be the same series and either AMD/ATI or NVIDIA.

3: Just a bridge.

4: You can find them for much les than that.

You can combine certain cards without any issues. Here is a chart for ATI: http://sites.amd.com/PublishingImages/Public/Graphic_Illustrations/WebBannerJPEG/AMD_CrossfireX_Chart_1618W.jpg

I'm sure there is one for nvidia somewhere too.

Yeah, knew about a lot of those, should have worded it better or looked up a chart myself. Didn't know you could crossfire 67xx with 57xx. o0

Thanks guys,
I have bought a HD 6850.
For future-reasons I was thinking on preparing the pc (mobo, PSU, ventilation) for the use of cross-fire; just in case more graphics-power is needed for future-games.

You'll have no problems running games with a 6850. I'm using one in my latest build and play all my games max settings :]

What games do you play, Synge?

Lots, but assuming you're looking for more graphically intensive examples: Well, I max Crysis with good frames, and more recently The Witcher 2 (though not everything set to highest).
