When I click on "change avatar" I get this
Sholly, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
What is the reasoning for this, I have looked on how to add an avatar or what is needed but I can not find it.

Did you read the rules that you were supposed to read before registering?
I'll answer that one for you: No.
Please read the rules before posting threads on this stuff.
*Facepalm*
You need to be a member for 24 hours, and have over 10 posts.

I read the rules, that is the thing I might have just skimmed over it.

guys - we can't expect everyone to know the ins and outs of our forum and this stipulation is somewhat unconventional and we can expect a reasonable amount of confusion over it. Just because we occasionally get a new member who's confused about it and asks politely to those who you'd expect to know the answer doesn't mean we should berate him for it.
I've made this post in regards to people being jerks to new members for stupid reasons about as many times as people have asked this question. If it's really this much an issue, we can start infracting people for it.
Sholly, as you've been informed in the thread already you can't post links, edit your profile, avatar, etc until you've been a member for 24 hours and made at least 10 posts on the forum. This is just a measure to prevent spam because spambots wont go to the trouble to make 10 posts.

It just gets old and frustrating when you witness it almost every single week, and I find it easy to lose my manners because of it. I'll try not to.

This is a busy and active forum, you are not going to be able to stop it.
Regardless of how frustrated you get you must stay polite.

Thank you, for the help, sorry I didn't post in the right area too.

If you find it old and frustrating, then don't post in the thread. Just ignore it and move on :)

I skimmed through this particular sub-forum, and didn't see anything of the sort, so, can we add a sticky post that says "Can't edit avatar? click here!" or something? We get this same question all the time, so I feel like it'd be a topic worth making.

It should be on the front page to all new users, floodlit by florescent colours of the rainbow.

As far as I know, there's a message sent to new users with a link to the rules, as well as a post about it in the new gamers section...but people always seem to skim over it, so we should like put a big sign up

there's a ongoing discussion in the staff section we've opened in which we're modifying the welcome PM to make this clearer.

The 24hours will give you time to make an Avatar and Sig, so its worth the wait I guess.
