Oh my god haha this is the best thing I've ever seen. It doesn't even matter who wins, this is the best way to settle a lawsuit ever. It should really catch on.

Yeah, Notch is awesome, and so is this proposal. XD
It'd be awesome if it went through, but if Bethesda are uptight enough to sue his ass over a word, I doubt they'll give this a thought. They see a successful, growing company and an opportunity to make money.

Several people have been saying that it doesn't necessarily mean Bethesda wants to sue them... but they actually HAVE to, because if later on, someone does make a parody name of The Elder Scrolls, they could argue that Bethesda hasn't been aggressively enforcing their copyright and Bethesda could lose the suit. So it may be more of a "our laws are dumb" than "Bethesda are uptight jerks" :/
Though I just read this several times by people so it's not necessarily what's going on here.
but yeah this is an awesome challenge XD

Very possibly. I'm basing my assumptions on Notch's blog posts and his comparing the situation to Tim Langdell's (greedy, money hungry asshole) stunts, as well as my opinion that one word should not be copyrightable. If this is indeed unavoidable then I retract my statements, but a majority of the time problems like this arise from greed.
Also, if anyone doesn't know, Beth. Game Studios has no connection with the lawsuit. So Howard's department/devs of TES have nothing to do with it.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you; I just wanted to put that out there as a possibility I'd heard. But yeah... I think it's ridiculous no matter what. XD
If it does go to court, it's not like the court it going to say that Mojang can't use the word Scrolls (I'd imagine). And if it is just to show that they are protecting copyright, then it doesn't even matter if they win or lose... just that they do it @_@ It's really dumb, in any case.

I cant finding anything saying they agreed to this or that he won it if they did. Your post is misleading sir.
I also love his game of thrones reference, thats a good series. Read it.
Also, a very public figure like Notch, who is an independant game developer challenging one of the big fish to a game duel is pretty freakin awesome. If Bethesda turns them down to fast they loose support from their fan base by not taking gaming seriously. It would be like a gun company not being confident enough to outfit their security with their own guns.

I don't see how it's misleading.. he never said Bethesda accepted or anything.

I think what OP said would be "epic win if they were to agree and notch won" or something.
anyways, as cool as this would be, i doubt it would go down
