Uploaded this because a friend requested it, just a few minutes of when Rigel (my cockatiel) was first practicing the Andy Griffith tune followed by him singing his own version earlier tonight.

Posting this here because I know there are a ton of pet lovers here. Our cat makes his Debut as well.

That's awesome! Gotta teach my bird that. Right now I'm trying to do "If you're happy and you know it" - much simpler and also because he likes doing the clapping sound.

Awwww, that’s so cool :)

How do you go about “training” him? Or is it more, you just watch/listen to something regularly and he starts to pick up on it if he likes it?

I whistle the tune over and over again. And he likes to sit on my shoulder with his ears to my mouth listening. He sits there quietly until he hears me like a dozen times, then gives it a try himself.

I'm actually doing that while posting this. But he's right in front of me on my keyboard. He does the beginning part of 'if you're happy and you know it' correctly but does the clapping part either too late or too early.

He's still young, plenty of time to learn.

And I also leave music on when I'm not home, he usually improvises then, which is good, because it means he's happy.

Haha That’s adorable ^_^ And def plenty time of time to learn. Im sure given time, he’ll eventually have a load of songs he’s mastered.

Ive been thinking about getting a bird for awhile. Ive known a few people that had they, and they can be so sweet when they’re happy and treated and well :) On the other hand, can be hellions when they aren’t lol
