Scheduled Server Move 11/13/11

Tomorrow I will try to move the forum to our new server. You may experience a few hours of downtime including messages about the server shut down, database errors, dns errors, etc.

I will be in our IRC channel all day tomorrow if anyone has questions. I will try to make the move as quickly as possible. But the chance of moving tomorrow is actually 80%, things are unpredictable for me right now (as it was two weeks ago) but I am hoping that it will be completed tomorrow.

Basically. And you'd have to define 'cheap' for me to comment on that.

And I don't know if I'd define what we've been experiencing as downtime, the server doesn't go down, it's just one port that keeps randomly shutting off. Frustrating, but yeah...technology.

Well less costly, is how I'd put it. Forking out cash so we can access the server that whole half-hour every few days we can't wouldn't be cool man!

Technology is always a pain no matter what, it really sucks lol.

The new server seems ready for us, lets hope it lives up to its expectations.

The plans for the move is still on for tomorrow. I may not be able to get to it early tomorrow (because of last minute plans that just came up with family) but if I have to, I'll do it late at night and carry it over onto Monday.

Also, lets hope I win the lottery tonight! The forum will come back giving away a lot of money and prizes!

Ok, we have moved over to the new server and I have reactived the forum's uses.

I will monitor this as much as I can over the next day or two and hopefully everything is steady.

If you see any errors, or experience any issues at all, please let me know! If you can't reach me here, you can leave me a private message in IRC and I'll actually take twitter messages @GamersForum OR @NazmusN if you find that I'm not responding to the GF one.

You may also experience a bounce back to the old server which is showing the message that the site has been moved. It's completely normal, DNS takes some time to propagate fully. I haven't changed our base nameservers yet, I will do so in 2-3 days when I feel that we have fully moved into the new server. At that point, you may experience further bounces between the servers. This is completely normal.

Thanks for all of your patience! I will post an official thread about the new server and where it came from in a few days after fully settling in.

So far yes.

I haven't updated the nameservers yet, I'll monitor the forum and server for another day and hopefully update it tomorrow. At which point, as stated earlier, you may experience bounces between the two servers.

I'll post an official thread on the new servers once the nameservers are fully propagated and I have enough confidence to cut ties with the old server.

It's similar software-wise to the old server. You'll have to be a bit more specific with the question if my answer isn't what you were looking for.

UPDATE:

DNS Changes were made, you may experience bounce backs between the two servers again, it's normal, let it play out and it'll fix itself.
