Earlier this year bethesda started a competition, if a couple would birth a child on the date 11.11.11 and named it dovakhiin they would get a lifetime supply of all bethesda games that does exist or will exist.

Today I just read that there is a couple who won that competition, they named their child Dovakhiin. I dont know if I should laugh or cry, naming a baby that just because of a competition.

I've seen parent's name their children luke, kerrigan, link, cloud, and even a sephiroth. If both the parents really enjoy that name and the elder scrolls, why not? Also (dova) could be a nice girl's shortname. Congrats to them I say.

It depends.
Dovakhiiin is a pretty cool name.
But if they don't believe that, and just want free games, then, well, there bad parents. :P

I hope they legally change their kid's name in a year or so. You can't do that to someone it's not fair lol I'd just feel bad.

On the note of funny/terrible names, a guy my mom knew was named Ty Coon.

People are just stupid, Dovakhiin is a little cool (even if there can be many problems in school) But I have heard much worse names like spanky.

Porky, Alfalfa, and Buckwheat are equally bad names.

Yeah I suppose Dov/Dova wouldn't be so bad.

But kids can be mean, and I wonder how badly s/he will be teased for being the kid whose parents gave them a ridiculous name just to get free video games..

I think it’s just ridiculous lol The name *may* have been cool if the parents thought it up on their own…. bBut naming your kids after video game characters? C’mon people >_<

However, free games for life born to any kid born on 11/11/11…. was an awesome idea haha Had I had known this nine months ago, dammit! :P

They had to name the kid dovakhiin to get the games.

But its not that hard to go back nine months, all you have to do is to get a Delorean, outfit it with a small nuclear reactor and you are ready to go.

Ah, you’re right. Totally skipped over the “had to name the kid after…” part xD

But yes… Delorean… mwahahaha >:)

I remember in Soc class in college learning about people that named their kids ridiculous things, like Lemonjello and Orangello (after orange and lemon jello). Wtf is wrong with people? Lol Although I will admit…. I have entertained the idea of naming my kids Leia and Luke if I happen to have twins :P

Robin Williams named his children after games, most notable is his daughter Zelda Williams.

I think it's okay if you feel a strong attachment to the game and it's not because you wanted free games. And Dovakhiin isn't exactly that could pass as normal, like Zelda could. It's different but not that different, xD

Really? That’s crazy lol Great mental pic of Robin Williams rockin Zelda though :P

But I mean, with the same logic…. I have a strong attachment to Pokemon…. and spaghetti…. but Im not gonna name my kids Ziti and Charizard xD I could see people naming their *pets* after video game characters…. just not their children.
