This year is looking great for Steam's Holiday deals!
First off there's the Daily Deals (New every day until Jan 1): Welcome to Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/)
Then there's the pack deals (available until Jan 2nd): Holiday Sale 2011 Pack Page (http://store.steampowered.com/sale/holiday2011_packs)
Finally.. There's the Great Gift Pile!: Holiday Sale Gift Pile (http://store.steampowered.com/holidaysale/)
And the details: Holiday Sale Instructions (http://store.steampowered.com/holidaysale/details)
"Each day, through January 1st, a set of six objectives will be revealed on The Great Gift Pile page. For each completed objective you will get either a gift or a lump of coal in your Steam Inventory."
My first gift was 33% off any valve game. On Jan 2nd I get to use it and it expires in.. March I believe it said.
Now, the coal.
For that you'll want to scroll to the bottom of the Great Gift Pile details page.
Back yet?
Yeah.
You read right.
Coal gets you entered into the Epic Holiday Giveaway, and yes.. the grand prize.. is EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. ON. STEAM.
ALL OF THE GAMES.
ALL OF THEM.
So not only are you getting coupons and games in gifts, but your nasty dirty coal will get you entered to win amazing prizes.
There's a reason I love steam.

None of today's deals peaked my interest, though I did see some at 50% off that I want; Crossing my fingers and hoping they pop up later at 75% off.
And my first gift was 33% off Sword of the Stars II. I don't normally base a purchase entirely on critic scores, but I don't think I'll be getting this game (http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/sword-of-the-stars-ii-lords-of-winter/critic-reviews) -.-

I got Day of Defeat Source.
I love steam too.
Portal2 for $7.49...thinking if I should get. I barely played the first one after the first 5-6 hours or so.

darn lol, I just paid $15 for that... Anyways, since i have quite a few games Im actually shooting for as much coal as I can carry. A good way to make sure you get as many as possible is to do them in advance:
Steam Holiday Sale Achievement Guide (http://www.steamcheeves.com/)
Anyways, I was reading their TOS and liked this line:
In the event of sabotage, acts of God, terrorism or threats thereof, computer virus or other events or causes beyond the Sponsor’s control, which corrupt the integrity, administration, security or proper operation of the Objectives or the Epic Holiday Giveaway, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, cancel or suspend the Holiday Sale Period, Objectives or the Epic Holiday Giveaway.
Now even if god stacks the odds in your favor you cant win.
Lol, that is a pretty water tight way of giving them control of an event. Just what constitutes an act of god anyways? Also I love how thats smack in the middle of sabotage and terrorism.

Curious to know how many of the achievements you guys got. I got 13 so far, going for my 14th as soon as this game loads.
I got screwed when I traded in 7 coals and got 50% off L4D2 even though I already have the game. I know a few others who received DOTA 2 instead - I'd rather get DOTA than 50% of a game I already have which will be more expensive anyway by the time you can use the coupon.
edit: got my 14th

That sucks, and I've heard similar stories from others, so I'm just keeping my coal.
But I've only gotten 4 anyway, not really motivated enough to bother.

Yeah, I have none right now, Had 5 and blackleo gave me 2 to try for Dota again, steam screwed me again with a 33% off valve game coupon.
Have no coals right now, gonna try to get at least one more by tomorrow so I can have an entry in the sweepstakes.

I have a coal if someone wants it.
Not sure how to give it, though. Lol.
I also have the 33% coupon, and I didn't even do anything for it.
So I feel good about my Steam Account. <3 Rofl.

You need to initiate trade then you can give it to someone.
And you should keep it, it'll be an entry into the contest. If you win the grand prize, then I'll be happy to take that from you :) don't want you to burden yourself with all those free games.

Hmm, lookin hard at Bastion, Magicka and Dungeon Defenders. Skipped over them when they popped up early in the sale because I wanted to hold my money for the bigger titles I was anticipating. Plus, they're Indie games and go on sale all the time.
Anyway, all three are highly recommended by Total Biscuit, anyone here have an opinion on them? Bob's review of Dungeon Defenders definitely has me intrigued but I'm still more interested in the other 2

OH MAN!
I didn't had a chance to Enter! Well, I know a reason, because my Laptop is a Half-Decade OLD!

Dungeon Defenders is fun, but I think it kinda gets old and I don't like how they are constantly pumping out DLC you have to pay for... all those $5 add up.
I've heard Bastion is really excellent.
Sorry I didn't see this earlier x:

Haha yeah buddy, Steam was screwing with you those days. Maybe you should have given me the coals and maybe I would have gotten 2 Dota 2 haha.

I was thinking near the end but by then, it was too late to gather 7 more coals.
I was Santa this christmas. Spent around $600 on steam games for people.
Pop Cap Pack for everyone

Lolol. I never win anything anyways. I'm not worried much about it.
