I got an idea for you, to cover the vB upgrades (eventually), but you have to give to get.

What I'd like to see:


A new theme. Fresh graphics. Less "clutter."
Some Status Titles for profiles.
A market place to spend our GFP. With some bad-assery items.


Things of this nature.

My advice:

Set up GF-Pro Accounts.

No ads.
Higher interest for bank accounts.
Something SPECIAL that others don't get! HA!


Like 5 bucks or something.
10 bucks and you get an email account also, through GF?
I dunno -- some incentive, but you're forum is so big -- now it's time to cultivate it.

3. Will have to look for it. A marketplace did come out for vB a while ago but last I checked, some guy found a major exploit and shut down half the forums that used it, I stayed away from that one and vb.org super-scrapped that project. I haven't checked in a while though.

I like the pro account idea, needs more thought to it and I think we have something.

As for GF email accounts, that's a negative. I've tried it before, gave them out to a few of the staff, they don't use it much and I might offer it to them again, but can't offer it to anyone else. Can't trust anyone with this stuff.

And $5? I thought they'd pay me for the Pro account. And you inadvertently reminded me of something that we could give out that I planned on doing back in December but couldn't because my papers and finals killed me. Gonna work on that idea over the weekend and hope to get it out soon.

3. There's a market on another forum, if you want some show. It's pretty sweet. They also have Classified ads on that forum that you can in-and-out sell stuff, eBay style. Gamer to Gamer.

But just weird nostalgic, gamer stuff to buy, me thinks.

Can you PM me the link to the forum you're talking about exo, I'll check it out to see if I can find what mods they are using.

@Foofle - that would actually be awesome, it'll cover the license I've been trying to get but as exo pointed out, I'm trying to gather just $285 for now :) even after I have the license, I have to find a load of time to actually upgrade everything. And I never do it on the forum my first try, I set up a copy of the forum and try the upgrades on that first (along with upgrades of all the modifications), leave that running for a day or two to see if any bugs pop up, and then I go with the real forum.

The process scares me. I've done it plenty of times, but it still scares me.

I think the pro account idea is quite good, I would enjoy it if I never saw an advert here again, so I would definitely opt-in to that.. Especially considering the current advert I can see is "meet ebony singles for dating, BlackMatch". I do have a suggestion though, not sure if you do this already but set up an Amazon associates account thing. Basically you advertise products from amazon, being a game forum it will naturally be game related stuff. And if somebody clicks a link, and buys something, you get a % of the sale. I think it's like %15 if I remember rightly.

So yeah I'd look into that, the ads will be much more suitable for this site, and if you did news posts about new games that includes a purchase link to your account thing, you may make more money yet

I've used Amazon on my other sites without success, I still have my account, I might give it a go here since you made a valid point.

Also, google ads now show you stuff based on what you've been searching or may have accidentally viewed already. Their targeted ad stuff can get annoying.

People get butthurt over the weirdest crap.

Anyways -- implementation of this stuff is easier than a click, really. vB does a lot of the packaging for you and all you have to do is run it through the installer.

And for whats-his-bucket, they have mods that you can link your Console Systems to forums and it will let you know what the LAST game you played was -- active as well, because it tracks times.
I have one on my forum, so I know they make it.
