YouTube recently decided to clean up their system by deleting user accounts that have been inactive for over a year and accounts that were closed by their user.

I think it's a good idea because then you actually have a more legit number of subscribers. But every time I'm about to hit a milestone or get something special from YT, they step in front and ruin it for me.

I was 13 subs away from 1k subs and now I'm 36 away (because 23 accounts were inactive). I wish they waited one more week, I would have hit my goal.

Any thoughts on what they're doing?

Why are they doing this? Running out of user names? What happens to people's videos that were inactive for a year and account deleted? vids gone as well? If yes, that setting a slippery slope where a lot of historic youtube vids would be lost

Not sure if the videos are gone, they didn't even make a formal announcement for it.

Maybe they are just going after suspended accounts and accounts that are inactive and no vids

You lost 3x as many subscribers as I have total :P But 23 isn't too bad a loss, especially if you're gettin 13+ subs a week.

Anyway, I'm liking the direction they're going and (most of) the changes they've been making.

I wonder if the account names they deleted will be up for grabs again.. I've tried a couple that were deleted but it still says they're taken.

I hope the usernames become available, there are a few that I would love to grab (For older and newer projects of mine).

Guess they're not available, which sucks.
