'Weekly hardware purchases double; console outsells Wii for first time in 26 weeks.

The release of Halo 3 has had a dramatic impact on sales of Xbox 360 hardware, doubling the previous week?s sales to the highest level of 2007.

According to ChartTrack, the system even managed to outsell Nintendo?s Wii for the first time in 26 weeks ? a full half year.

Some 68 per cent of Xbox 360 software sales in the week were of Halo 3.

The release pushed overall software sales of Microsoft?s format to its highest sales week ever ? comfortably beating the previous best of week 51, 2006.'

Obviously, Halo 3 is compelling gamers to buy a 360, just to play Halo 3.The benefit of that, is they see that the 360 has a great lineup of exclusive and superior multiplatform games.

Halo has no effect on hardware sales. Everyone that wants Halo has purchased an xbox 360.

If Halo doesn't sell hardware, what does? No, really, what does? People try to claim some kind of weird "only hardcore players" argument but if blockbusters like Halo and Gears don't move hardware, nothing will. "But teh casuals!!" argument might make sense if Viva Pinata sold a ton, which it didn't... in fact, I would daresay more hardcore players purchased it, like myself.

I think its due to most places being sold out of Wii for months more than anything.

Really? I live near Glasgow and have been able to walk into any shop in the city centre and buy a wii for at least 3 months now! Just waiting for Mario to force me into actually doing it!
