View Full Version : Hardest Game You Ever Beat?

Hi everyone! Recently, I've been noticing how easy most modern games are compared to older ones. I can easily beat the COD games on the hardest setting. At first I thought I was just getting really good at gaming, but then the thought occurred to me that I hardly ever finished any games when I was young. I dusted off the old NES, turned on Megaman, and realized a dramatic increase in difficulty. I want to see what was the hardest game everyone has beat so I can see if new games truly are getting easier. The hardest game I ever beat was TMNT for the NES. Sure, there were a few tricks to beating the main bosses, but anyone who gets through the final levels deserves a medal. Finding the Technodrome, destroying it, getting through it, and defeating Shredder required the most gaming skills than any other game I have ever played.

Yeah, most older gamers would list mostly NES and SNES games, there are sooo many I was never able to finish (yay for older cousins. I enjoyed watching them as much as I did playing myself).. but there are some pretty tough newer games. Have you played Demon's Souls or Dark Souls? And Devil May Cry 3 kicked my ass.

Oh Dark Souls was more unforgiving then hard for me... made me tear up a couple times

Synge

They're not as difficult as people make them out to be. But the gameplay is amazing, makes you actually think about what you're doing rather than just going through the motions, like a lot of games these days.

Ya. BUt one thing I would I hated was how 3/4 of my deaths were from rolling off a cliff.

Synge
03-21-2012, 09:47 PM
Hahah, yeah. I learned quickly to watch myself around edges.

Actually, I think fall deaths helped me more than anything :P, pretty useful for changing world tendency.

Haha oh talking about Demon Souls?

Synge
03-21-2012, 09:57 PM
In regards to being useful for changing tendencies, yeah.

Falling is a pain in the ass in both, though.

Have you played Demon's or just Dark Souls?

norid
03-21-2012, 09:59 PM
I own both. What about you?

Synge
03-21-2012, 10:03 PM
I own Demon's but have only borrowed Dark Souls from my cuz. I'm glad I held off buying it myself cause it seems a PC version is on its way, which is awesome.

I barrowed mine from a friend before he just gave it to me =p
But I really enjoy them both just because they are trilling and challenging. Oh and the bosses are awesome.

The most difficult thing I've played is a SC map called respawn bound. Its all about timing and patterns.

Chaos Legion, cause I thought it was an easy game, but nope, there's certain skills you gotta do in the game that make it worth it to beat. haha

Lol Don't worry. That game can be kind of difficult, but I personally think Mario Kart is much more difficult. If I recall correctly, Diddy Kong Racing doesn't have a 150cc Mirror Mode

For some reason those mirror modes are always so hard...

Hyper_Reality
03-25-2012, 08:16 AM
Its because you have been playing all the tracks for quite a while, you've become familiar with all the turns and shortcuts. When you play on Mirror Mode, it messes with your brain and you'll notice that you don't react to turns as quickly as used to.

Hell even without mirror mode I suck

I found the first Bioshock really hard, it took me absolutely ages trying to beat it, the sense of joy when I finally beat it though was great :D Unfortunately I haven't really had another game compare to it in terms of difficulty since :(

Bioshock 1 is one of my all-time favorites! The final boss is a little easier than what I hoped for, but the Big Daddy's are nearly impossible to kill on the hardest setting. The only way I could see Bioshock getting any more difficult would be if they completely restored the Big Daddy's health every time you died.

Yeah the Big Daddys were hard, it was a great game. I never got around to playing Bioshock 2 unfortunately :(

It's not even that man. It's those stupid golden balloons...and the hovercrafts! Some of those maps were a nightmare, xD

Hardest game I've beaten is probably Devil May Cry 4, or Halo Wars, both on hardest difficulty. Both frustrated my and pushed me around for quite a while.

Well one of my favorite games ever was Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and I Skyrim really wasn't a lot different, like you could still fall off stuff and there wasn't anything there helping you. Probably not the hardest game I ever played though, IDK what that would be.

I hated those stupid hovercrafts! They could not turn worth crap and you always ended up bouncing all over the whole course!

I haven't really beat any 'hard' games... :embarrassed: But I have to agree on the older games being hard. I read how there were a few games made for NES that were impossible to beat, and not really meant for anyone to do so.

Agree with Bioshock 1 & 2 Final bosses being a let down. Those Houdini splicers were more of a challenge then Andrew Ryan.

My list of games I have beat are: Lego Harry Potter 1-4, Lego Indian Jones 1, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, Both Bioshocks, and L.A Noir. Not impressive.

The Houdini splicers were more annoying than difficult just for the fact that they can disappear and reappear anywhere they want. >:(

Technically every enemy was more challenging than Ryan, considering you meet and kill him all in one cut scene :P

hardest.... maybe front mission4 (without a guide)

or maybe...the ramza challenge on FFT, or the armored core arenas witht he starter AC. Every hard mode boss and the temple guardian on terraria at the same time was pretty hard.

I never beat Ninja Gaiden... I rage quit... and I openly admit it. =P

Trunks
04-17-2012, 04:03 PM
I think most older games use to be so hard because they had no continues or saves. If you died, you go back, that's what made it hard. I've played Ninja Gaiden for NES, hard game yeah, I've never beaten it, but If I could load up at the beginning of a level, It wouldn't take me that long.

Also, Black ops on Veteran I claimed impossible, I got stuck where you are in this desert looking place and have to run down the hill using bunkers or sand bags as cover. You can kill as many as you want, they never stop coming, I claimed it impossible and deleted the save off my xbox.

Anyway, hardest game I've beaten.... hmmm, BioShock on the hardest difficulty and beating it 100% was definitely intense. I got close with Deadspace, half way through the game on impossible, and the name of the difficult is dead on. I gave up on that as well. Trying to think of the games I've beaten none of them really stick out in my mind. I've mostly only beat shooters, don't really play that many other games. If I do it's not normally on the hardest difficulty so they're really not that hard.

Hyper_Reality
04-18-2012, 05:12 AM
Along with no continues or saves as Trunks stated, I believe older games were much harder because most of them did not have a difficulty setting. You got stuck with whatever difficulty the game programmers decided was hard enough. Nowadays, you can just dial down the difficulty to easy and dominate any game in less than a week.

And this why we refer to extremely hard games as "Nintendo Hard".

How hard was Contra? Without cheats?

You only have a few lives, you die in one hit, and everything imaginable in the world is out to kill you. A great game, but it will extremely piss you off.

Super mario 64. The older games took precision movements, timing, and overall skill. Then shooter games came too, and its been easy ever since. But i spent forever as a kid trying to completely beat every level on sm64.
