While the official reveal of Sony's next home console could still be months away, if not longer, Kotaku has today learned some important details concerning the PlayStation 3's successor.

For one, the console's name—or at least its codename/working title—is apparently Orbis. And it's being planned for release in time for the 2013 holiday season.

The details in this story come from a reliable source who is not authorized to talk publicly about next-gen hardware but has shared correct information with us before. What they're telling us in specifics matches much of what we've heard and reported in generalities in recent weeks.

A Sony spokesperson declined to comment about these details, citing the company's policy not to comment on "rumors or speculation."

The Next PlayStation is Called Orbis, Sources Say. Here are the Details. (http://kotaku.com/5896996/the-next-playstation-is-called-orbis-sources-say-here-are-the-details)

"Will lock new games to a PSN account as an anti-used games measure"..... Seriously...WTF Sony?....

I believe all 3 consoles could go after used game market. Gamestop is screwed and us as gamers are as well. Just think if used games were so anti in the PS1 era, that I would not be able to buy and complete all the games. I have a feeling though that the BB will put a stop these anti used games or someone will. And if they don't I hope nothing but the worst for any of the consoles that do it

Yupp, I agree. But really it’s the console manufacturer’s decision. I really don’t think anyone can stop them unfortunately…..

I’m assuming if they go through with this it will only be new gen games and older and that they won’t be backtracking? Who knows…. the whole thing in general is retarded -__-

I dunno, I was thinking how this is blatantly anti consumerism if they do it. I mean can it really be legal to stop used sales? Is there any industry that has this?? I'm not sure, I wouldn't think so.

My real problem with these new anti used-game measures company's have been taking is,
as a collector I buy a game thinking in 10 years time I'm
going to be able to play them again for nostalgia or other reasons. What happens when the servers go
offline. Effectively every game would have the shelf life of a MMO.
That's just a concern of mine.

I really hope they don't screw us all over with this... I mean, I'm not the richest guy around, so I borrow games from my friends and they borrow from me, I usually buy Preowned games aswell.. Also, Has anyone heard if the "Orbis" will be Backwards compatible with PS3 and 2?

Cell is a money pit, so almost everyone is saying in the rumors that they wont be going back to cell which basically means no bc at least hardware wise. They might release them on PSN i guess. But as for bc not looking great atm.

Grrrr
That just sucks.
I mean I'll still buy the Orbis. But Yeah. I'm hoping for atleast PS3's to play on it. Unless of course they bring out this crazy thing called... I dunno "Red-ray" or "Black-Ray" Made especially for Orbis.
And let's hope they don't change their controllers, I seriously do NOT want to see a touchscreen on my controller >_<

They cant lock games to a PSN account unless they have them all have a code. But what they are doing and started already is locking online mode for games.

Such as wipeout 2048, it comes with a code that lets you access online content. Once the code is used it can not be used again.

But if you buy the game used you can purchase another code for like $10.

Why is no one telling anonymous this :P. If this happens I am becoming a full time pc gamer no questions asked.

If they really go through with the whole 'no used games' thing then I'm probably gonna find pirating more appealing. Not to say that I will, just I see the point.

This will not stop those who Pirate. It just makes it tougher on those who dont.
