So..
Since I was a child I have always had insomnia. Most of my life I have slept from about 2-5 am to 2-4 PM. It's a normal thing to be and I have always needed 8-12 hours of sleep to feel like I've had a good night sleep. About 2 weeks ago I went to bed at 12am for some reason and I woke up at 5am, ever since then I can't sleep more than 4-5 hours a night no matter how hard I try. It's so damn annoying staying up 19 hours a day, my body just can't take it. Has anyone else had this happen or know a fix? My problem has always been getting to sleep and now it's not sleeping long enough.

Make your self stay up till you crash, then you'll be able to get back on track. At least thats how i am

You probably don't actually have insomnia. It could be a change in diet or stress that's messing you up. If you do what thedeparted suggested or perhaps tried exercise or eating better you might be able to sleep better. I have real insomnia for as long as I can remember I've only been able to sleep 4 or so hours a night (on average sometimes I don't sleep at all and every once in a while I crash and sleep all day). Its something with the brain I think it was that mine doesn't signal that I'm tired so I can never get to sleep unless its because of exhaustion

Wish I could help but I'm kind of the same. For awhile I was going to bed at 7-9am, then waking up at 12, it stopped and I have no idea why lmao Every now and then I reset and then gradually I get worse and worse.
I just try my best to go through the motions. D:

You tried supplements? ZMA is pretty good... also doing exercises can help you sleep better. Stay away from sleeping pills thou.

If you've been diagnosed by your docotr, then you're doctor would be the best person to ask. It could be casue my multiple things, stress, depression, anxiety, drugs, genetics and probably 100 other different things. If you got disagnosed by your docotr then you should of asked him for a treament while you were there.
Me on the other hand. I can close my eyes any hour of the day and pass out. It's kind of nice actually lol, I normally have to sleep on the floor at friends houses because every trys to call the couch. I just pass out on the floor why they fight over it.

I have ptsd so I don't want to close my eyes sometimes. I like to think it is controlled, but I am beginning to realize each day more and more how it is not.
My mom has insomnia, and she has tried everything. The only thing that works is Ambien. But it makes her do some crazy midnight eating (I guess not so much anymore).
If it is a problem of your mind running and you cannot shut it off a therapist told me to do a brain dump. Which basically is take a notebook and write down every thought that pops into your head. Don't over think it. Just get all that **** out. Doesn't matter what it is or how stupid it sounds... Write it down and eventually your mind will be empty. It worked for the times I did it. And it was awesome to read it later (next day-weeks-months) just date it.
Or another thing I sometimes do is listen to soft electronic music or nature cd's. Robert Miles (23 am or dreamland) were the 2 I listened to most. But I can listen to anything now and can fall asleep to it. Try classical also.
Good luck, insomnia sucks.

Asmr recordings. Some people crumple paper like a God! Those are supposed to help you sleep.

For the past 3 nights now I've gone to bed at 11 and got up at 7. Lets see how long it takes till my body throws me into another schedule.

Your doctors haven't given you anything for it?
I went through a really rough patch when I was 17, throughout my senior year (insomina and anxiety), would have killed to get 4-5 hours of sleep a night. My doctor prescribed Serax and my problems were pretty much cleared up by graduation.
Edit: Just saw your last post. Glad things are getting better for you :]
