the free internet is just 1MB which is kind of lame. I'd kill my self if I had that, I've been spoiled with 1.5 Gigabit internet.

The free one is 5mbps download, 1mbps upload. I know a ton of people that this would be an upgrade for.

And you currently have 1.5gbps? What provider?

Actually I just did a speed test and I get 20mbps which would be 2 gigabits right? The upload is really low, only 2mbps, and that's for the top internet they provide other than business ones.

Anyway, I have suddenlink. Kind of a local internet/tv provider. We have a bundle thing with them that has cable, phone and internet.

20mbps is 20 megabits. The mb there stands for megabits :-P

I have half your speed, 10/1 mbps. My cable company does 50/20 mbps but they won't let me upgrade...I might cancel and get my parents to order internet since they only offer that to new customers.

I think that made me more confused, I never really understood the difference between bytes and bits. gigabit is 128 megabytes or 1000 megabits, or are bits still binary so it would be 1024.. I think, for some reason I was at the conclusion that a gigabits was equal to 10 megabits.

8 bits in a byte. So 1gigabit/8 = 0.125 gb OR 125 megabytes. The whole 1024 part doesn't fit when talking about this stuff. And you will actually never reach 125 mb/s of download or upload speed on a gigabit connection, it's just possible, not guaranteed.

And yes, a gigabit is much faster, 50x to be exact. 100x more than mine :(

yeah gigabit is so much faster than whats top in the land today. chattanooga has has gigabit for like 3 years, but that is 350 a month. So now we have 2 us cities with amazing amazing speed. It needs to fracture out fast! But it wont :(. We need hard drive to better in tech and we need more people with it to make it the most useful

Too bad if you got Google's internet you still wouldn't be able to download at top speed. Maybe with really popular torrents or something...
