Perhaps its an OS problem, being made for a what 98? and you're using what vista or 7? shot in the dark

See if you can mess with the graphics settings. Might help a bit.
When I switched to Win7, I wasn't able to play CS 1.6 properly anymore. The graphics were really messed up and never got around to fixing it but it was definitely the compatibility between the game and the OS that was the issue.

Well, yea, it's because i'm trying to use Starcraft on a Windows 7, but I'm asking if anybody knows a fix for it lol.
I got the Fallout Collection for PC which has the same problem, but there is a patch for that game that lets you fix it...I don't know if starcraft has something like that though

YES I KNOW HOW TO FIX IT OMG I LOVE YOU FOR ASKING ON HERE.
Ok first you need to right click on "Starcraft.exe"
Then go to "Properties"
Go to the tab labeled "Compatibility"
Check all settings except for "Run in compatibility mode" (I don't know if thats what the setting is called since I don't run windows anymore, but just don't run it in compatibility mode.
OR the easy fix:
Install Ubuntu
Download wine
Install Starcraft with wine
Watch the game run 50 million times better than on windows :p

^^ Yupp, what he said. You have to change the compatibility for it. It doesn't always work though. Just last week I found one of my favorite PX games, Total Distortion, changed compatibility, and it still wouldn't even work :(

I've tried compatability mode before, it doesn't do anything.

Compatibility mode has never worked for me on any game while running windows 7. I was trying to get a windows 98 game to work on my friends laptop that runs windows 7, never found a way to do it. If you ever find a way to get it to run, you should let me know.

^^Same here. Seems like compat mode is completely useless -__-

It's useful with other things (like your printer driver), I've never found it to help render a game like an older OS, if it did, I probably would still be playing cs 1.6 (but now CS: GO is out so yay)

Well, that's true. It's useful for anything except games lol Which really sucks.... I don't want to believe that there are games I'll never be able to play again D:

I still have a windows 98 that works fine so I can just play my older games on that haha. I just wanted to put Starcraft on my laptop to play at college....Oh well, I'll just get the second one when I get a new computer

The fix wont work if you run it in compatibility mode. You have to check all of the boxes except for compatibility mode

I did. It did nothing.

-_- I don't have Windows anymore so I cannot check. Try opening your screen resolution window and then play your game. The internet recommended that one :p

Lol NA. I remember I fixed it on my computer when I had Windows 7.
Never had to worry about that on Ubuntu.
also are you running as administrator?

Running as admin doesn't really render your graphics better. Especially on a 14 year old game since they didn't predict where computers and graphics would be now.

Well I was guessing it had something to do with the compatibility settings. The fix I first suggested should've worked, as it did on mine, but it could have something to do with his hardware. Found the official Blizzard fix (http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/legacy-video-troubleshooting) for the game! I am kind of surprised it does not show up directly on Google. Hope it fixes the problem :D

Im running Win7 and get that same problem.
change your window theme to high contrast (black background and stuff) and then run the game. This fixes the colors for some unknown reason but it does require you to go back and forth when you want to play early blizzard games. That will also work for Diablo1.

I think that it actually has something to do with the color scheme windows uses as default. That might actually be what Blizzard's registry fix changes :p

Try running it in compatibility mode.
