Just wanted to let everyone know that the beta sign up for Elder Scrolls online has started monday. If you'd like to sign up for the beta you can apply here.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Beta Sign-Up (http://signup.elderscrollsonline.com/)

I'm definitely pumped for this game, it looks pretty awesome.

EDIT: Make sure you get an email from noreply@zenimaxonline (dot) com - If you didn't get one you're not entered into the beta. Simply reapply with a different email address and you should get accept almost instantly.

My computer probably can't handle it. :/ What kind of specs you need?

Trunks

Not sure, didn't say. They tell you to send your PC specs. They may invite you just because you're computer is crappy and they won't to hear how it runs lol.

and I think everyone gets above average as long as they fill everything out.

I would like to sign up but Bethesda doesn't plan on adding Linux support so I don't see that helping my chances of getting in.

I signed up a week or so ago. I reallyyyy hope I get in because I'm really interested to see this game D: I got an "above average" rating on the beta form so *crosses fingers*

Any idea when the beta is going to open. I tried looking, but haven't found anything. I'm guessing soon since the sign up is over a week ago.

No word, and if you get into the beta and find out when, you can't say (read: not supposed to.) Their terms are super strict in this one. You can't even say you're in the beta, (Which hey, how are they gonna know if you mention it in person, but anyways,) and even now all you can say if someone goes "Hey! Are you in the beta?" you response is to be "Sorry, I'm under oath" or some crap along those lines.

Really lol, wow. where did you see that at? I've never heard anyone do that for a beta, that's so weird.

It's one of their terms. Normally, Betas will put a segment in saying "Don't spread photographs/videos of the beta" but they really stepped it up for this one.

Didn't you read the terms when you signed up for the beta Trunks? :p

Trunks

I didn't even see it to be honest, I see boxes that start with "I agree" I normally just click them.

I'm pretty sure that them saying, "Please don't say that you're in beta," isn't going to do any good lol I give it under an hour after beta is in progress for videos, pics and details to be released :P

When the hell is beta sign up over, anyways? Still going on :O

Trunks

I think they're extending the beta sign up since they are having issues, no news when it's over yet though.

One thing I learned, if you didn't get a confirmation email from noreply@zenimaxonline (dot) com - then you are not enterted into the beta sign up. So if you didn't get one, you'll need to renter with DIFFERENT email and you should get it. This happened to me and after I entered a new email I got the email almost instantly.

Keep in mind here. You should get 2 e-mails from them. The first (almost instant like Trunks said) says "Hey! We got your app! Thanks!" you should (according to them) receive one within 48 hours of that which will actually tell you if you're in the beta or not, and how to join. I'm thinking this is gonna turn out to be 48 hours after the signup ends.

I hope I can get it, and my computer will actually handle it :X

Well after playing in the stress test, it's pretty much set in stone that I'm going to be wasting my life away on it once it comes out. Though it definitely tested my stress levels, the first hour was all loading screens and the game not doing what it was supposed to do. Once I got out of the tutorial, which should have taken 10 minutes instead of an hour with 3 game restarts, the game was really smooth. I was actually running 60 FPS with 100+ people in the same room as me with everything on max.

Some things a little different from most MMO's, you have the option of joining 5 guilds at a time. Meaning you can have a guild with your friends, PvP, PvE, ect all at the same time.

The Combat system is interactive, you can charge up for Power attacks which have the potential of knocking down your opponent, block attacks if you have a shield which also interrupts casting spells, but they all require stanima. You can also dash in any direction to dodge your opponents attacks. So PvP is going to be awesome in this game.

atm, they only have 3 races all under 1 faction, but it looks like they have 3 factions, with 3 races each. Each race has about 4-6 classes to pick from.

All I can think of right now, I feel like I didn't get to do a lot lol, 3 hours wasn't enough especially when an hour of it was trying not to punch my computer screen. After the little tutorial thing, I was surprised how everything ran really smooth with no lag, not sure how many stress testers were on, but the room was filled with people. Which was kind of funny, because we got every to do /dance which made me laugh pretty hard. Game definitely has the potential to be really awesome though. I couldn't really find anything I was upset with yet.

So, you mentioned one or two things that were different from most other MMO's (the ability to be in multiple guilds, power attacks).... I mean, besides those small things, is there anything else about it that makes it worthwhile/different?

I'm curious because I feel like in order for any new MMO to make it to big at this point (and to keep my interest), it's going to need something drastically different to keep people interested and playing.

Trunks
08-13-2013, 09:00 AM
Well I mentioned like 5 things, but yeah I only got to level 4, so I didn't see much. I mean it's still an MMO, it's not going to be a whole not different from WoW or other RPG's. If it was, it wouldn't really be much of an MMO. It's the small things that count IMO. Everything about it is just small changes from other MMO's, what big things could they add?

For me when enjoying an MMO, it's more about the atmosphere than anything else. The game has to be based of good Lore to keep me entertained during quest and leveling. Apart from leveling I enjoy a game that requires a good amount of skill to be good at during the end game. Not one where anyone can do it without much practice which is what WoW turned into. With interactive combat, I feel this game will require a lot more skill than WoW, especially end game.

But every time a new games comes out, people always say "It's the same as before" Or "it's the same as (insert game here)." Call of Duty for example, everyone wants some huge change that's going to make the game totally different. What more can they add, it's an Online Shooter, there is nothing to make BIG changes with. You have a map, weapons, perks and kill streaks. Not a lot you can add to the game from there.

It annoys me when people want this huge changes to a game, when huge changes aren't possible.

I enjoyed the game, the lore was pretty strong in the beginning, don't know if it slows down later. It's like other elder scroll games, where you have the main quest as well as many side quest to choose from. Combat system is enough to keep you entertained for a while, either grinding or questing, I was still having fun when the beta shut down. Only thing more I could hope for is good PvP, fun late game and not a craphole community like WoW has turned into.

Was it a similar gameplay to the other Elder Scrolls games, just in an MMO? Or does it take the MMO 3rd person angle with the hotbars approach?

Mizel
08-13-2013, 12:18 PM
I don't think anyone is looking for HUGE changes. I mean obviously there aren't a ton of HUGE changes that they can make, but they can make enough small changes to make the game unique. And you're right about the little things counting - which is exactly what I meant when I asked "Is it different than every other MMO?". What I mean is, are there enough *little* things to make it not the typical boring quest and grind MMO? Because those small things are what will get me, personally, to play.

Thinking about it, it's kind of annoying that people have the mentality nowadays that "companies can't add/change things to make the games different." Those said people are generally the same ones that are perfectly okay paying for what is essentially the exact same games over and over..... and over and over again. The problem is that companies don't make changes, or try to create a unique game, because they know people will buy the games regardless. But to me, even the smallest of changes are what set games apart from others. Look at Rift for example. They did something as small and simple as add rifts and amazing skill tree/customer characterization options to the game. Or look at Neverwinter- you can create your own quests/dungeons in the game for others to play. That's all they needed to do to set it aside from other generic MMOs and make it at least a little more interesting. So no, they wouldn't need to do something HUGE but it really, really wouldn't be hard for them to do something different that no other MMO's have done.

That being said, I got my beta invite today. Guess I can judge for myself! :P

I didn't really see anything in the game that makes a huge difference like netherwinter or Rift, then again I only got to level 4 so it could still be there. Combat system as well as the skill tree are pretty different, instead of having just class skills for you talent tree, you gave a skill tree for each weapon as well. Such as 2handed, Staff, Bow and sword and shield. Other than that and things I mentioned above, I can't think of anything else that is different. IMO it does feel like I'm playing an Elder Scrolls game and just some random MMO, so that's what was important to me. I personally wanted the Elder Scrolls feel and I'm glad they managed to keep it when transferring for to online play.

Was it a similar gameplay to the other Elder Scrolls games, just in an MMO? Or does it take the MMO 3rd person angle with the hotbars approach?

It really didn't have to many hotbars, but I didn't go into the options to look for them. They have quick slots for potions, you hold Q and move the mouse in 10 directions to pick potion or whatever you're doing. Then they only had 5 slots for abilities. So I'd say it's more similar to other elder scroll games than the average MMO.

Wish I could screen shot, but your email is kinda all over the background, so if you SS, then it also tell them who leaked information, which probably means no more beta invited for you.

I haven't played any of the ES games, but as soon as I get my new PC built, I'm buying Skyrim to get familiar. I played the beta, for a few hours only, I work on weekends so didn't get to play much of it. It was familiar WoW feeling, but it somehow was smarter and it surpassed it. I am excited for this game, for Daggerfall!

Something has been bothering me for a while, TESO does not look as good now as when it was announced. For one thing they said it would not be a generic skillbar based game, but the beta videos show generic skillbars for cooldowns. I might go into a rant about this at some point, but for now I will just gloat about calling this game ahead of time. . =P

Is it wrong of me to be so proud of figuring out this was coming 3 years before most?:

Morrowind MMO (http://www.gamers-forum.com/showthread.php?16140-Morrowind-MMO&highlight=oblivion)

I didnt guess the name but i did the research and knew what was coming.

Trunks
12-15-2013, 01:05 AM
There really isn't skillbar on TESO. It's very similar to skyim's battle system. You have an action for each hand as well as the same hotkey system to cast spells or use items. Though there is a small action bar, I think it allows 4 items to be used on it. I can't remember, but the skill you unlock are a lot different. Some skills come form the type of weapon you're using. Though you do have 3 different talent trees to go from, I really haven't gotten far enough to figure it out. It is different though, I've played a lot of MMO's, haven't seen anything like it.

I got an email yesterday for some ESO beta. "You've been selected to join a hand-picked group of testers that we've identified as particularly helpful—the Psijic Order." "As a member of the Psijic Order, you'll have access to a special server with extended availability where you'll test content before it is released to other testing groups."

Apparently it's some rare beta? I just found online that people for paying for the beta keys for it? Wtf, mate? Guess I can finally check it out :P

That's the part that makes me laugh the most! I haven't even participated in any of the beta's I'd been invited to because I was busy each time. But somehow I'VE "been selected to join a hand-picked group of testers that we've identified as particularly helpful."?? Lol

The one site I saw was someone starting a bid on the key at $500 or just paying $1k for it without the bidding. I'd consider selling my key if I thought someone would actually pay that, but I'm pretty sure that person selling the key is just going to get laughed at :P

Hahaha I've been doing some research on this special Psijic Order beta invite group. It is split up into 2 groups/servers. The one that I got a key for is "Mara's". It's made up of females. The other group is Zenithar, which consists of "older people." So if I give you my key, you're going to be in the girls group :P

I'm going to check out the regular beta this weekend. I think it ends on Sunday? If I don't like it, I'll give you my special beta key :) If I end up liking it (which I'm not really expecting) I'll probably keep the key so that I can play more :P The special beta has no time period/scheduled end date.

EDIT: I just took about 5 minutes reading over the Mara's group forum. Holy crap. I could barely take it. It's what I imagine sitting in a room filled with the most obnoxious, dumb-on-purpose females is like. Being forced onto a server full of these chicks and being forced to listen to them and watch their conversations? I think it's safe to say that I won't want the beta key :P

Tried out the beta Fri and Sunday. Of all of the beta's that I have participated in... this one takes the cake for the absolute worst, buggiest, full-of-issues beta ever :(

On Friday I got everything downloaded and attempted to log in. Took about 6 or 7 attempts of the game crashing on log in for it to finally work. Then after I got a character created I went to enter the game… it just sat on the loading screen for a good 4-5 minutes before I finally just exited the whole thing and tried again. Same issue again, exited and restarted again. Third time I just let the loading screen sit there forever while I was making dinner and whatnot and when I came back it was *finally* loaded. No idea how long it took to load, but I was gone for at least 20 minutes.

So, I’m finally in the game where you start out in a dungeon in a cell. You basically just explore it, talk to a dude, and get to leave the cell. To leave, you activate the door. But for some reason the game was not giving me the option to open the door. Figured it was buggy and went to log off and log back in to see if that would help. Welllll, on log out the game crashed like it was doing on log in initially. Got it back up and running, and got logged back in. Same issue again. Log off again, game crashes again. Finally on the third time of logging back into the game, I was able to open the door and leave the cell.

Played for about 15 minutes or so… and then got to a quest which I needed to complete for the next set of quests…. And guess what? The quest giver guy was not showing up. Another bug that everyone was experiencing. Whatever, it is beta after all right?

At that point I was pretty annoyed, so I just decided to log out for the night (upon logging out the game crashed, of course) and check back on Sat/Sun to see if they had fixed the non-existent quest giver bug, etc. I log in on Sunday (without any crashes, surprisingly) and see that the quest giver I need is still not there. So I made a whole new completely difference character… start playing that new character… and then run into the same issue again with missing quest givers. I just got pissed and logged off.

My husband was having all of the same issues I was and from what I could see in chat, so was everyone else. It was really disappointing. As far as I know, ESO has been in beta for MONTHS. At this point in time, I’m not sure how they’re having so many issues. But if you’re going to launch and continue beta you should probably make sure that some of the key elements necessary for playing your game (as in the ability to log in and receive/hand in quests) … actually work!

It was just frustrating. Every single time the game crashed, it brought up a report screen so I was able to report it directly and let them know what I was doing when it crashed, but man I could only take so much before I just said screw it. It just boggles my mind that at this point there are still so many major issues. I’m hoping that I will be invited back to the next beta test because I really wanted to see what the game was like :/

I agree. From what I've seen as well it doesn't seem like anything I'd pay a monthly sub for. However I didn't expect to exactly fall in love with it either. I'm sure that's probably partially due to the fact that I did not enjoy any of the Elder Scrolls games. But I still wanted to check ESO beta out. You never know.

I didn't have any bug issues and logged on exactly at 6:00pm when it started. Had no lag or delay, maybe different people are running on different servers/versions? idk. Only bugs I've noticed were where you get stuck in chat. But a simple /reloadui fixed that.

After playing this game almost all day yesterday, I'm starting to really enjoy it. Finally starting to learn how the crafting works and the hotkeys. Load times are killing me at the moment, apparently yesterday they hit population cap for 6 and a half hours, most people ever to be online. Some load screens were up to 10 minutes, like right now. Today they are putting everyone on one server and testing it, and I haven't been able to login in almost an hour.

Can't wait for the game to release so I can actually progress. Already decided my Alliance, Race and Class as well as my account name if no one takes it. Only about 2 more months...

I'm dying right now. My computer died the day of the last beta, now I'm on my girlfriend's laptop. For whatever reason the d/l won't go over 50kb/s (Steam goes at our normal 500-600kb/s) and it's at 60% since Wednesday :/ from what I've been watching on YouTube I'm still gonna buy the game. It looks like a ton of fun. Already have time put in to get off work too, haha.

Hey everyone, if you haven't heard yet the NDA has been lifted! (http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/post/2014/02/15/the-beta-nda-has-lifted) So now everyone is free to discuss pretty much anything about what they've seen/thought about The Elder Scrolls Online.

Which could mean we may be seeing an open beta in the near future.

I don't even think I got accept into the closed beta, probably will play in the open beta.

Next beta invitations were sent out, it's from Friday, February 28th at 12:00PM EST until Sunday, March 2nd at 11:59PM EST. We'll actually be allowed to talk and post SS of the game if we please to this time around. Also, they gave me 3 beta keys to give out. So is there anyone that didn't get an invite that still wants to try the game?

Oh snap... I saw the email and directly into my trash it went. But I didn't realize there were extra keys on it. If anyone wants some, I've got some I'll never use as well :)

So there's officially no more betas...launch will be April 4, with 5 days early access starting March 30 at some point that morning. The last one was a ton of fun and there was a bunch of fixes, as well as a cap of level 25 areas (up from 15)

I've never been so excited about a game before. I actually went and took April 1/2 off so I could have some full days to play and get into it lol. Everything about this game just feels so engaging, and it feels like a great hybrid of the Elder Scrolls series with an mmo. After 3-4 hours of the last beta I wasn't convinced, but this one suckered me into buying it.

I can't wait, I've wanted to get into a MMO for awhile now, finally a good one is coming out. I just hope they do a reset for the launch, Is there any news about that happening? I haven't found anything.

Edit: Never mind, after more searching around, I found the answer. Everything will be wiped from the beta, which I'm pretty glad about. Also, for those who don't know, if you took part in the beta, you get a Monkey pet to follow you around :D.

Yup, everything is starting fresh! They say it's about 5-10 days of /played to hit max level, and I'm hoping that it'll take me longer than that. Too much exploring to do! Even with plenty of time logged over the last 2 sessions I still only made it to level 12 haha.

What are you guys thinking of ESO so far? I just saw the review from the Youtube guy that does the "Angry Reviews." Some good, mostly bad. I haven't gotten it yet (was waiting to see how things went after launch before I even considered buying it), so I was just wondering if this review was spot on/justified or not?

Elder Scrolls Online Angry Review: Elder Scrolls Online Angry Review - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov3B26h12C4)

Summary for those that don't want to watch:

1. They done f_cked up this game.
2. The $20 extra for the 10th race is a money grab.
3. Huge world, but sandbox is a lie. 120+ hours of content but it doesn't matter because its all average.
4. Quests are boring.
5. Required to enter a CC before being allowed to play the $60 30day period.
6. Lots of bugs. Some bugs are gamebreaking.
7. Encounters are awfully tuned. Example: bosses drop 2 gold. Named enemies drop 1 gold. Economy is boned due to dupe glitches.
8. Horses cost 17k gold, or 42.7k gold. People who don't own collectors edition call the game a running simulator since nobody can afford horses. $20 bucks to upgrade.
9. Grouping mechanics are terrible. It breaks quests mechanics in PvE and the MMO overall is less multiplayer and more singleplayer even when you are grouped. Everyone in the 10. group has to do the same thing individually (like 4 people to touch a button for every door in the instance) to complete the quest as a group. The game teaches you to resent players.
11. Voice acting is decent, but there are examples where the voice doesn't match the speaker (tree talks to you like hes a 20 year old yuppie who just got fired from his job).
12. Encounters are not tuned well, quests have no immersion and progression is non-existent. Daedric army translates to 4 enemies.
13. Little sense of discovery or wonder in the game. Everything feels soulless and half-assed.
14. Highly suggested to get addons due to UI failures.
15. Graphics are passable but not the impressive graphics some fanboys rave about.
16. Game does not compete well vs single player rpgs, and nor does it compare well to current subscription or free 2 play MMOs. It does however distinguish itself with action combat MMO.
17. Class freedom (no armor restrictions or weapon restrictions) is a good thing this game.
18. PVP is one of the only places the game shines. It's similar to GW2 and DAoC. Only thing that's holding subscriptions in the game at this point.

You also get a horse for the 20 dollars and like 30 treasure maps. Plus a companion pet and Rings of Mara which allow you to level faster with a partner. and you can get 17k for a horse around level 15-20, lower if you know what to sell. Level 15 or 20 sounds like a reasonable level for a mount.

This is the only MMO that I've played that the quest aren't just "kill 20 bears and get 10 furs" They all have individual stories, best questing I've ever played for an MMO. Some quest have a few puzzles you have to solve. Haven't found a quest with a repeated story or one that just tells you to kill 10 things for no reason.

Bugs are basically gone now, the dupe glitch has been fixed, I haven't found a bugged quest in a week. I hear people get UI bugs in chat though, I use add ons so I don't have the issue. Also every subscription game makes you subscribe to a monthly fee before you play. WoW did the same thing when it came out, it's a subscription game so I'm not sure why people are so mad that they have to make a subscription. Honestly he nit picked pretty hard, but I suppose that's what he does for a living.

This is a pretty unique MMO, Combat/skills system is awesome, allowing any class to do any role in the party. The roles have changed as well. Tanks no longer can hold all the aggro, there are no abilities to just gather everyone up and thunderclap. From what I've noticed there are only 2 taunt abilities in the game. Instead tanks are more useful using CC's to stop them. This also means that healer and DPS have to take some damage and kite. Makes the combat a lot more fun, because normally the DPS just stands there pushing 4 or 5 buttons for there combo. Same with the tank really.

I've found the crafting to be fun, being able to deconstruct items, upgrade them and make items of different styles once you learn them. There are also crafting areas in the open world that you have to find and you gain bonuses to the items if you craft them there. You also have to use your skill points toward crafting if you want to progress in it. Makes you choose between making your character stronger, or being able to craft stronger weapons. If you have the materials you can upgrade a white item up to a legendary item, would take you a lot of money and there is some gambling involved, but it's doable.

PvP is awesome, you go to an Open World area, so big it would take you 30 minutes to an hour to ride your horse from one end to the other. It's a 1 vs 1 vs 1 and your goal is to take over castles for your own alliance. You use siege equipment to tear down the castle walls so your team can storm inside. Each alliance starts with 2 elder scrolls and if you hold extra scrolls you gain bonuses in combat in and out of the PvP area. I haven't spent a huge amount of time there, I've been just leveling.

All that being said, the game does feel like it's missing something, not sure what it is, but it's definitely missing something. I'm still glad I got it, never had the chance to play an MMO from beta into full release. From what I read all MMO's have rough starts, some worse than others, I think it all adds to the experience.

I agree, most MMO's do have rough starts. That's why I wanted to see how ESO panned out after a couple of months of so before I decided to possibly buy it or anything.

I actually just got done reading an article saying that they have finally fixed the dupe glithc. About time haha I was wondering about that... I actually didn't know anything about that particular glitch until a couple of days ago. The last thing I had read said that the glitch was still around (and had been since Alpha) and that they weren't sure what they going to do about it (make everyone start over completely or start perma-banning). The article I just read said that they've begun perma-banning everyone that had exploited the glitch, but they still have no idea how idea how they're going to fix the economy because everything is still worthless. They're hoping that since the glitch is now fixed, the economy will start to fix itself.

Kind of sucks for the people that got perma-banned, though :X And apparently it's a LOT of people. The ESO website says they have already perma-banned "thousands" of accounts. Jeebus O_o I mean, of course I see why they did it... but they knew the bug was there since Alpha and didn't even bother to fix it before launch. I mean, if you're not going to fix a bug you've been aware of for 6+ months, that thousands of people informed you of, I feel like you shouldn't punish people for exploiting it. It's not like it was a hack or anything... a simple exploitable mechanic that they knew about and chose to *****foot around with. I just kind of feel bad for those perma-banned. I feel like a complete wipeout and reset on their characters/account would have been a more appropriate punishment :/

During launch they disabled banks, which is how the glitch was done, but within the day they enabled the bank again. I guess they thought they fixed it, but they didn't lol. The economy isn't messed up from what I saw. I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with the legendary items, but Motifi books, they sold for 1k at launch, now I get about 800 for them. People have been farming though, as have I and you can get them at level 1 if you have patience. So not surprising that they have went down in price, 1k is a good chunk of gold at low levels. Materials for crafting have stayed about the same. So it must be late game items that have changed, I haven't seen a huge drop in price for items.

I don't feel bad at all for people who were duping. I mean, it's clear that it's wrong and gives you an unfair advantage. I'm glad ESO gave such a serious punishment, shows people that they won't mess around with unfair advantages, rather it be glitches or hacks.
