So, my brother and I were making fun of republicans fear mongering over the defense budget. He and I recently have had lol and heated debates with hardcore republicans over how much is really needed to protect this country. So I found a site and I been looking around historical budgets

Here is World War 2

1939 1.9 billion or 10%
1940 2.2 billion or 11%
here where it gets fun
1941 7.2 billion or 30% of the budget
1942 27.1 billion or 59%
1943 70.4 billion or 76%
1944 86.1 or 78%
1945 93.7 or 79%
1946 53.3 or 67%

Freaking nearly 80% of the overall budget for 3 straight years. Could you imagine spending 80% of todays budget on a war lol

In 2012 we spent 3.796 trillion at a deficit of 1.327 trillion. Defense took took 902 billion or 24%. I cant even imagine if we pumped it up to ww2 levels or civil war levels. Well i can tell this the military industrial complex sure would have damn near everyone employed in 1 way or another if we did.
