PC game disc doesn't work

So, I found my Diablo 2 discs recently, and went to install Lord of Destruction earlier on my old computer, and it won't read the disc. I don't have any cd cleaner and I don't want to drive all the way down to the game store to get it buffed...I tried that toothpaste thing and it did nothing. Any other suggestions? Also, is there a way to install the game without the disc? Like...copy the files over or something?

I was going to say tooth paste haha, but yeah you can download from blizzard.

If you don't have one already, create a battle.net account and you can go to your profile and enter the CD key for Diablo 2. Once you do that you can download it from the website any time and anywhere you'd like. Remember onces you enter the CD key the game will always be bound to that account.

I think for diablo 2 it doesn't matter though, because they took down the online servers I believe. But for future games you may download from blizzard, it'd be nice to have all the Cd keys on the same account.

Idk, I took it to get the disc fixed the other day and the people that worked at the store said the servers are still up. I'll have to find out for myself though.

Only 1 bnet account can have diablo 2 at a time but you can have multiple diablo 2 accounts. New bnet accounts and diablo 2 accounts are different

I just checked, they're still up. I tried a few months before Diablo 3 and it said they were down, must have just been temporary. But yeah for Diablo 2 you're able to created multiple accounts because the game was finished before the Battle.Net thing came about.

Thanks for the info, I've been wanting to play D2 again but I've been afraid to dig out my old discs cause i wasn't exactly careful with my stuff back then.
