This is amazingly shortsighted and narrow minded in my opinion. To me, there is no debate of "weather or not you can make a sport out of competitive gameplay". If we really think about it the brain is a muscle. Sports like golf, Nascar and Formula 1 racing allow people in relatively poor shape to compete in activities no one questions as sports.

In contrast pro gaming can have incredible mental demands that its critics do not consider. How many sports require you to interpret massive amounts of information and make lightning quick actions based on precise timing for an average of 45 min strait? Does baseball? Does football?

Why is pool an accepted sport while 5 man teams who devote their entire lives to training are somehow less valid? I agree that these athletes are not the same type of athlete as others, but neither are horse jockeys. What makes a good sport is when people compete in something with enough head to head competition that showing they are the best of the best is impressive. It means they absolutely have developed a skill, using at least one muscle that lead them to victory. And if you think the human brain is less impressive than a throwing arm, then maybe it is pointless to argue with you.

Maybe we are meant to be amused by just how ignorant some people are.

I have no problem with that they dont think its a sport as its just their oppinion, the problem I have with them is that they joke and think we are crazy and stupid(and make bad jokes about nerds in general). Hey, I dont like football and I think its a pretty stupid game but do I say everyone that plays and watches football are crazy and stupid, No I do not.

Ignorance at its best. :/

This pisses me off. I forgot that baseball isn't a game.

Plus what's with the comment "how many of those people go to Star Trek conventions?" Wtf does that have to do with anything?

Notice the age of everyone in this video, explains everything to me. They're the people that didn't even have video games while growing up.

Definition of Sport: "an activity involving physical or mental exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."
