Another meteor over Russia was seen, a little over a year after the one last year. We don't see much of them around here. And the incident is making me consider getting a dashboard cam:

On one hand, this would be really cool to have witnessed in person. On the other hand, incredibly terrifying in a "we're all gonna die" kinda way.

This is another reason for governments to invest in programs that try to find and monitor asteroids and comets before they become meteors.

It does sadden me that the US is no longer very invested in that line of research. I admit my knowledge of the situation is limited but my understanding is that it's cut back heavily if not altogether.

Science has gotten a bad name in the US and it's not getting better.
