It looks like the bottom has finally fallen out of Blockbuster. After numerous failed attempts at attracting new customers, the company is finally spiraling out of control.

What of the blu-ray exclusive now...

Idunno. I read the whole thing and was not convinced that his doomsday predictions fit the situation. Okay, so they're dumping their online strategy. I still see all the new movies rented out at the store consistently.

And some people will never take to the whole online rental thing because when people want to watch something, they want to watch it NOW...not later.

An interesting article... although a little premature. Was the author once burned by Blockbuster? There's something in between those lines that makes me think so.

I doubt this is the end end for Blockbuster. They will likely restructure and eliminate more brick and mortar stores, streamline their upper and middle management, and finally focus more on their online rental venture.

But yes, ultimately Blockbuster is doomed, they got waaaaay to big in the late 90s/early part of this decade when they had the financial cushion of Viacom behind them. Once Viacom left, they needed to shed overhead quickly... something they didn't do fast enough.
