The Romantics, who brought us the song "What I Like About You", are suing Activision, Harmonix, and RedOctane over their usage of the song in the game "Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the '80s.".

Although Activision properly obtained the rights to use a "cover" version of the song, the band claims that the game's cover version sounds so much like The Romantics' original recording, that it will confuse people into thinking The Romantics "recorded the music and endorsed the product".

+1 for tort reform

I don't think they have any basis for the lawsuit. Bands do cover versions of each others music all the time and the Romantics should be happy for the free publicity. A lawsuit would be a negative thing in the eyes of people they might have made fans of with the game.

This better not be a hoax like the Metallica incident. If I remember correctly , I was the only one not fooled.

It's not a Hoax. The lawsuit was filed in Federal court in Detroit, as reported by the Detroit Free Press. (http://*********p.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007311220001)

Oh, and I forgot to mention, they're seeking an injunction against Activision which, if granted, would pull the game off the shelves.

but, they're suing bacuase they think that it "sounds too much likee their song"?
sounds like they're just trying to get cashed, like most past music stars.

At the end of the day it was a cover, and they had the rights to do a cover, nothing illegal going on there. They'll fail miserably in court.
