When Independence Day rolls aound this year, Lil' Kim will be celebrating, but for a much different reason than the rest of the country. ?The rapper is set to be released from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia today, July 3.
The rapper, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, is slated to be freed from the prison between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., according to her attorney, James Leonard, Jr. After being released from the facility, she will report to an undisclosed location in New Jersey for processing, then head to her North Jersey home where she will serve a one-month house arrest sentence.
"I am thrilled to be coming ?home. I thank all my fans for all their letters, as well as my family and friends for all their support throughout the past ten months," Kim said in a statement.
Kim was initially sentenced to 366 days in prison for lying to a grand jury in a 2001 shooting incident between members of Kim's crew and Capone-N-Noreaga. According to reports, she is being released due to good behavior. Looks like this Independence day will have a whole new meaning for the Notorious K.I.M., who has been imprisoned since Aug. 2005.
The rapper made history recently when her reality show, "Lil Kim: Countdown to Lockdown," became the highest rated debut in BET history when it premiered this past spring. Just two days after her release, BET will re-air each episode of the show back-to-back on June 5 beginning at 8 p.m.
